I'm looking for a couple of Diamond memberships for my son and for a friend. If anyone is looking to sell let me know.

There was a thread on some other board indicating that they were - somewhat quietly - looking to purchase a number of ranges in various locations throughout the US. Texas and Florida were two locations mentioned as likely expansion locations. Of course, if you've been out recently, you've noted the grading going on to double the Nevada facility size.

Hey Everyone. I updated my first post to include some helpful Front Sight CalGun links. Hopefully this will help newcomers (as well as old timers) quickly reference these threads.

Yeah, I agree with this. I bought the diamond membership for $250, and supposedly get every(?) course for free, for life.

I would think that many/most people that attend these have memberships, and thus never pay (extra) for the $2000[sure...] courses. There are still diamonds available, for $250.

How long FS can sustain this is a mystery to me, but it doesn't seem sustainable to me.

I'll be going to the 4-day def. handgun course soon.

I spoke to an instructor yesterday about that issue. Since no more new lifetime memberships will be sold, they're going to a club-like model with dues. I don't know if he knows for sure, but he's probably in a better position to hear any rumors or news. Those with lifetime memberships should be grandfathered in and exempt from dues.

I suspect that a class action suit would resolve that issue rather quickly....

I think he meant "NEW" memberships would pay annual fees. Come to think of it, Lifetime members sort of pay an "annual fee" otherwise called a $50 background check.

No. Only when you sign up for a course do they check to see if your background check is current.

Yeah, but then you have to add in a car or other transportation to Front Sight...

A few of my friends and I are taking one vehicle...a huge truck. Will be a fun trip.

I hope you have a great time!

I was thinking of flying to Vegas and renting a car once I'm there to avoid the drive from fresno to Vegas. I thinking of going in May before the real June/july heat kicks in. Or I might wait until October as well.

Where are you staying? Vegas?

Front Sight + EarthQuest?

A Disneyland for Gun Lovers

Frank McCrady, president and CEO of the East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID), announced last week that a preliminary agreement has been made with Front Sight Firearms Training Centers to build a facility in East County. McCrady said the project will bring significant economic impact.

The firing range project, which has an interesting connection to the questionable dinosaur theme park, EarthQuest, supposedly coming to East County, also brings a controversial history.

Front Sight's headquarters is located in Pahrump, Nev., the same community that former EarthQuest consultants Don Holbrook and Chris Brown have contracted with to develop a theme park in that rural area.

Not sure if this is the right thread but i'm asking.

Do they let you switch between any of your guns at anytime? For those of you who took a m&p, did anyone have a apex trigger installed? I want to install the FSS trigger kit and want to know if it will take a beating without a problem. Any recommend me sticking with the factory trigger or something else?

I think one of the questions that should be added is what gun did you take, and how many mags for it.

You can switch guns at any time UNTIL the skills test. You must use the same weapon for the entire test.

I heard the most popular guns used are Glocks and 1911. 3 magazines are the minimum requirement but I would have at least 4 or more.

I think we are staying very near the FS location...I believe that most recommendations are that you don't stay in vegas, mainly due to time constraints, and also that people who stay in vegas tend to stay up much longer, thus getting less sleep.

Once my friend tells me where he stays, I will let you know!

Let me know where and the price if you don't mind. I was going to go in May but I just bought a dillon 650 so I pushed it back to October now. No more guns and big purchases this year. I need to save up for the trip .

Both times I've gone to Front Sight I've stayed in Vegas. Time constraint isn't bad if the ppl in your party can get up early, 1st day we leave about 6:15 and get there about 7:30-40 plenty of time if you have our gear ready to go for inspection

For some reason, I thought you were going in March.

We might have met you for dinner one of the days, if we saw you there in May.

Ya it's about a good hour and at the end of the day it sucks more so if your doing a 4 day course. You'll save more on gas by staying in parhump

I stay at the Silverton Hotel on the southside of Vegas. Bass Pro Shop attached to it.

Drive time is 45mins door to door. Book early enough and rates are as low as $45.

Takes me about 50 minutes from the strip. I like to really open the rental cars up and see what they can do though...
Next time I think I'm going to stay in Pahrump though since I'll be doing a shotgun course and don't feel like walking in and out of the hotel with what will obviously look like a firearm.

Membership Type: Diamond with Alaska
Membership Date: 1997
Courses Taken: Most of the shooting classes multiple times
Next Course: Possibly April to meet up with my Dad who now lives in AZ. May take the 2 day skill builder with my support hand or with a revolver. Can't decide. Might take a trip to Alaska for the 3-Day 3-Gun (Skill-Builder-Level Handgun, Shotgun, and Rifle) in July.
Comments: My 1st class was in Bakersfield before the move to Pahrump. Back when Brad and Naish actually taught courses. So I've taken many classes since the beginning and seen it evolve. FS is not perfect but is a fantastic place with many excellent instructors. I only wish my schedule would permit going more often.

Question: Has anyone taken the edged weapons or unarmed defense courses yet?

I'll be trying edged weapons in April, I'm trying to figure out what to expect.

Trust me on this, take the empty hand defense class before the edged weapons class if you can. There really should be a hard prerequisite for that. You'll get a lot more out of both classes this way as the edged weapons curriculum builds on the empty hand curriculum. I did it the other way, as did most of the people in that EW class, and they basically had to scrap most of the knife training to do empty hand basics. The people who HAD taken EH got screwed.

As far as the classes themselves, they are very different than the firearms courses. Think about it this way - in four days they can take someone with no firearms experience and get them hitting targets from the holster with a good degree of accuracy. How long would it take you to get basic proficiency in a martial art? Four or six months of regular classes? So what they can do in two days is just a quick survey of a few techniques, not terribly organized either, just basic exposure. I feel like I was exposed to a ton of useful skills, but certainly didn't master them. Also be aware that many or most people in the class will be limited in their physical abilities, and that will set the class pace.

I was just there this month for 4-day advanced rifle (got the flu and had to sit out some of the class) and a support-hand skill builder. Great weather in February.
