Glock 34 sights
First of all, I'd like to thank you for helping me out. I can imagine how annoying it can be if a newbe asks so many apparently stupid questions. I can assure you, I have been using the search function extensively before posting another question.
I'm almost ready in the equipment department for IDPA SSP. I purchased a used Gen 3 G34, ordered a stock guide rod set-up (mine came with a solid SS rod), a solid leather belt similar to what I'm using for carrying concealed, a Comp-Tach holster and a double-mag pouch, and a couple more Glock stock mags. The only thing I want to change is my sights. I'm set on Dawson Precision, but I'm not sure if I should go with adjustable (https://benstoegerproshop.com/dawson...r-optic-front/) or fixed (https://benstoegerproshop.com/dawson...t-for-glock/)? Adjustable . . . I'm certainly lacking the know-how to set them up correctly, and the fixed set is .205 x .105 up front. Is that okay? I, too, use a G34 Gen 3 in SSP. In my experience, I started with a very wide fiber optic front: http://www.hivizsights.com/product/gl2014/ Then moved on to a TTI for front and rear a month later: https://tarantacticalinnovations.com...set-for-glock/ Currently, I have settled with Vogel Dynamics' sights for the last year and a half: https://benstoegerproshop.com/vogel-...-robert-vogel/ Maybe this article can help you (it's from the USPSA magazine, but the concepts can also apply to IDPA, etc.): https://www.dropbox.com/s/87fxupvlsw...ights.jpg?dl=0 _ Last edited by rodralig; 11-05-2018 at 9:07 PM.. |

this is almost asking like what's the best pizza. Personal preference rules. I'm on my second sight set on my Glock not including the stock ones, think I finally settled on what I like. In general terms, a thin front sight will help for those farther targets especially when there's cover or a no shoot partly blocking. A 34 is supposed to have a taller front sight than a 19/17. I settled on Warren Tactical plain rear, .245 tall front fiber. Both my eyes are nearly equal dominant so I can't handle any marks on the rear sight.

I've been using the TTI sights on all of my competition guns pretty much since they came out.

Thank you, Gentleman!
I decided to start out with ordering a set of TTI sights, as they seem to get several favorable reviews. I noticed that they are set up for 124 grain ammo. Just this morning I checked what I've left in 9mm and found 147g, 124g, and 115g. Planing on burning all of this up ASAP before ordering specific ammo for competition. (I use the good Hornady stuff -- .380/.38Spl/9mm -- for CCW.) Since I brought it up, can I even use 115g ammo on a G34 in SSP? Should I then buy exclusively 124g in the future? |

To answer your question - 115gr, 124gr, 147gr and even 165gr - again, it's all about preference. Try a few matches with a 115gr, then a 124gr, etc. and see what you like (what works with you and the gun, like the recoil spring weight). Of course, 115gr will be on average cheaper than a 165gr. As such, I personally go for 115gr factory (I don't reload... yet...). And yes, yep, the choice of grain weight may also affect your choice of sights (particularly the height of the front and/or rear)... _

124 is a good compromise and readily avail for about the same price as 115. |
