New gun store in Burbank causing uproar with residents worried about gun violence

BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) -- A new gun store is causing an uproar in Burbank.

Some say it's too close to a school, but a protest Saturday didn't stop a long line of customers from showing up for the grand opening.

Doors opened to the brand new, second location of a store called Gun World.

Across the street, on Magnolia Boulevard and Hollywood Way, dozens of people came out to protest the opening. They say that there are too many gun stores in the city.

"It's really scary knowing I can go to school and someone can go to my school with a gun," said Ada Kennedy who was protesting the new gun store's grand opening.

Kat Fisher says her daughter is terrified to walk past the gun store to Roosevelt Elementary School nearby.

"For responsible gun owners, if you want a handgun for safety I'm okay with that. I'm not trying to take that right away," Fisher said. "We don't need AR-15s. You're not going to hunt a deer. You're going to destroy the meat. I feel that there's too many gun stores out here."

"There needs to be background checks, we need to have regulations in place," Fisher said. "We need to tax people that are buying these weapons."

I guess Kat Fisher has no clue regarding CA gun laws as everything she is asking for has already been implemented and then some.

I wish people would do some research befor faux outrage.

I grew up in a small town in CT where a group wanted to turn a closed furniture store into a simulated gun range. Real guns with laser simulators, no ammo. There were people concerned about bringing the wrong element into their town. There were people concerned about being too close to schools, high school 2 miles one way, jr. High 1 mile the other. There were people concerned about what this might say about their little town. Truly amazing. Another example how liberalism is a mental disorder. It just recently opened up. I hope that they evolve into a real gun range. That'll stir up the libs.

I think the article is wrong. What I've gathered from their website over the past month is that this will be a new location, and they are moving for a larger space.

In that regard, their existing store was getting cramped, and it would not make sense from a franchising perspective for them to open up a 2nd location just a mile up the road from their current location.

They recently had a gun I was looking for for years, I figured I'd check it out and feel it out. Price was right, ppl were friendly so I bought it, maybe things have changed there in the past few years.

"Cam and Company / NRA News" ran an interview several years ago with a man that applied to open a gun store in a strip mall.
Process was going along smoothly until some antis caught wind of it and started complaining.
The application was suddenly denied with the excuse that there was a school nearby and "it would send the wrong message" to children that walked by.
The kicker...
That particular location became an adult book/toy store.
