Question Savage .22 WMR Magazine fit in a Marlin .22 Mag Rifle?

Pretty much what the title says,

Hey guys, I just bought a Marlin XT-22 Magnum bolt-action and the max magazine made for this rifle is 7 rounds. I have heard that the Savage 10 round .22WMR magazines will fit in the Marlin rifles and I was wondering if any of you can confirm this to be true or have experienced this swap yourselves?

Judging from the picture below, they do look awfully similar:

Savage mags are pricey. Marlin mag is squared in the front. Savage mag is tapered/more rounded. The latch ridge on the rear is a different length too.

You never can tell until you either try, or get information on what fits. a good example, I have a Kimber .22, and Remington Mod. 11 mags are interchangeable. Benelli .22 pistol mags fit a Colt Target, etc.

Yeah it's too bad the Savage magazines are like twice as much $, so it's a gamble. I've been goin to the range often and I think I'll just stick with my 7 round mags.. no bid deal, much better then those lame 4rnd ones that came with the rifle.

if you know someone that has a .22mag or a .17 savage the mags are the same. I have both if you want to meet some place and try them in your gun to see let me know .

Default Savage Magazine in a Marlin 22 WMR

The Savage magazine for model 93 and others will not fit the Marlin 25 WMR (XT-22 uses the same magazine and is nearly the same rifle) as purchased.

I purchased the savage magazine, and it will almost fit.

That being said it is VERY easy to modify the Savage magazine so it will fit and function correctly in the Marlin 25.

There are two tabs just above the track that aligns the magazine in the rifle. All you have to do is file them off smooth to the back of the magazine, and the magazine will fit the rifle nicely, and it works like it was made to fit it. See attached pictures.

It doesn't fit because I've test it myself be4 I bought my 1st marlin XT17R. both magazine looks identical to one another, however both mag are in different shapes and to inform you the marlin mags are slimmer over the savage mag. The locking lug on the marlin will somewhat slide the savage mag but it stop at one point. Yes it Sucks that marlin mag and hmr could only hold 7rds for it's extended magazine and it's shorter brother only allowed 4rds. I love my XT17R because in Fresno hear they don't carried any and it was luck that I was able to find this model at my lgs . Sportsman warehouse carriers but they carried the heavy barrel and some what almost the same model. If you want 12rds on the Marlin 22 mag... Get the tube feed model
