Default You have $1500 to spend on a gun.. what would you get?

So you’re looking for these:

I have both and here are my 2 cents on them:

The Rhino looks cool but after a few range sessions, it was just ummmeh for me and it stays in the safe most of the time. The bottom barrel was designed to reduce recoil but in reality, it is nothing to rave about. It reduces muzzle flip but not recoil. Shooting side by side with my Smith 686, the Smith is a lot softer.

A 1911 is a great weapon so I would go with this platform. A lightly used Les Baer can be obtained within your budget.

Are you sure you don’t like the look of CZ?

Nothing.

I've got all of the handguns, rifles and shotguns that I need already.

If I had $1500 to spend on a new gun...

I'd go with a Shuff's Mini-G. (tanker Garand)

I know OP is looking for a handgun - just answering the question in the thread title.

Not sure about handgun because there isn't anything expensive on the roster that I especially want at the moment.

I'll second the Dan Wesson 1911.
Read up on what Cifaldi has to say about them; that should be the major clue.

I know you asked for a handgun but since his is a take down model, I’m hoping you can consider it two long handguns?

A Glock 21sf, a heavy recoil spring, a fully supported barrel, and lots of 45 super ammo to experiment with.

Luger p08.
Broom handle Mauser.
Original p38.
Colt match 1911 series 70.
Dan Wesson 715.
Any Smith prelock.

Nice to be different. You don't see many at the range that's for sure. It will be a investment that will always increase in value.

Or 30 hipoints

Just pure range fun?

New; one of the two 9mm 1911s on the roster and some mags, or a pair of 357 SAA clones or Vaqueros, new or used.

You mean - I had $1500 and what did I spend it on? Well a Desert Eagle in 44 Magnum of course.

So the thing about the DE is that it shoots as it looks, different than other handguns, and it takes some getting used to. But its so much fun. You can always sell it if you end up not liking it. I wouldnt recomwnd it for a first gun or self defence though, lol.

But you would probably enjoy a CZ Shadow 2 just as much. I live CZ guns.

Ruger 9mm carbine & a hand gun with a D/A trigger (still undecided)

Great answer. Get the Ruger PCC in 9mm but I would skip the the DA/SA pistol only because the Ruger can use Glock mags. Get a Glock also and tart it up with the remaining $500 (i.e. RMR).

If you must get the DA/SA pistol, go with a nice Sig or an HK Expert or Elite.

$1500 should cover it all if you shop carefully.

Yep, with $1,500, I would go with the Dan Wesson PM-7. The Dan Wesson Commander Classic (CBOB) is a sexy little guy, but the PM-7 is a beautiful and accurate 1911 range/target pistol. I've never used the factory magazines because I'm a big fan of Wilson Combat model 47 magazines. They never fail me. Good luck.

Thanks all for the suggestions! Plenty of great points brought up.
I'm heavily leaning towards a Dan Wesson and/or getting a milspec 1911 project gun and sending it to Brett to work his magic. Decisions decisions..

The US made P210 Target has an MSRP of $1,699. When they're available, I've seen them new for $1,449. A bunch of places list them in stock, but I question their honesty.

Check for availability here.

Then there's the whole roster thing.

Exactly. Which means you're not buying one for $1500 in the Peoples Repuplik.
