Another one to consider is the Savage Stealth Evolution. It came out a couple years ago and is much smoother than the Savages from 5 years ago. They get put on sale a fair amount and Savage occasionally does rebates on them. I've seen them online recently for $1250-1300. The other good thing about Savages is they are in stores more often than other brands, like at Cabela's, etc. so you can fondle them.

I'm getting ready to have a custom 6.5 built.
I think I will be selling my predator in order to fund it. 1/4 moa gun in my hands. Selling the gun with the hidden mods like jbweld and sand with scope for $700.I do not shoot it under 900 yards since it is a laser. It's not tacticool like a rpr but it can easily keep up with one. I typically stay .6 moa at 1250 yards. At 1 mile the bullet is the limiting factor but you should be fine at 1400. maybe 300 rounds through it but I'll just say 400 to be safe. need to count the brass. other than that i would suggest skipping over those low mid range guns and going straight to custom. ive shot most of those and they are closer to a $400 gun than a $2500 custom built gun. or get a chassis to make my predator tacticool if you need looks.

The LRP is like the BMP, but with an upgraded trigger, action, and more stock adjustment from the factory. All of them have fully floated barrels. The HMR Pro gets you the upgraded action, trigger, and a stainless barrel. I would honestly shy away from a factory Rem 700, just because the barrel, you will want to upgrade pretty quickly after you start shooting-- which ultimately will cost more than just buying a rifle with an upgraded barrel like Tikka or Bergara. |

I like both of my RPR's. The trigger is the one thing that needs a little improvement, like a lot of other rifles. An easy fix is a $10 lighter spring Ruger Precision Rifle Reduced Power Spring ~1 - 1.5 lb. But it's not a must have item.

I have the S&W 6.5 1,000+ yards on target no problem, on the upper end with cost on rifle's above.

The Howa 1500 can be purchased as a barreled action only. That would be my choice as you can tacticool it up without wasting new factory parts. My friend has one and we've taken it to 1 mile without much grief.

If you're on an extreme budget, here's a Howa chassis rifle on sale for $750.

I'm still looking at the RPR in 6.5cm and I just saw recently as this past weekend online, a Savage BA10 Stealth for $800... I've held both of these before and really like them both...but if I dont get the Stealth, it may be the RPR...tough choices!

The RPR is good because of how adjustable it is for the individual shooter. Most guns if not all shoot, it's the shooter that influences the shot. Look for a rifle you can get most comfortable behind.

A couple new semi-custom rifles,
designed for PRS production division, but they are a pretty good deal for the money. Better than any factory gun, in terms of what you get MPA PMR Rifle - Custom Action(Curtis) - Competition Barrel - Trigger tech special - Competition proven chassis https://masterpiecearms.com/shop/mpa...etition-rifle/ BadRock South Fork - Custom Action(Defiance) - Competition Barrel - Trigger tech - MDT LSS XL Chassis https://badrockrifles.com |

It will feel the same but you will be shooting 6.5 instead of 308. If you don't fool with the action/bolt, you can switch barrels back and forth easily as each will be headspaced to your action.

I own a bergara HMR in 6.5 and love it. I have also shot the RPR in 6.5 and a how’s 1500 HCR in 6.5. All three guns shoot very well. I personally think it’s all about what fits you best. The one downside to the HMR is the finish. Gotta keep it wiped down with oil.

Get a 6.5Creed Bartlein Barrel, pay Randall to chamber and install it for you. http://www.bugholes.com/category-s/1872.htm ~$7-850 total and will outshoot any factory rifle unless you're going high-end like GAP, Surgeon, etc.

It may rust like one but I will bet they shoot better out of the box 8/10 times lol. Bergara’s quality control is better.

I just picked up a Ruger No1B in 6.5X284. Which, when it comes to accurate long range shooting, is much like seeing a pretty girl in a bikini - and finding out she's a nun. Looks nice, but what's the point?
My apologies to any Ruger No1 owners or Catholics I may have offended ….. |
