Default Which agencies allow more than 3 handguns on permit?

I am researching this question in order to request an expanded list on my county's permits (San Benito County). I found Stanislaus County allows 5 handguns. Are there any other agencies that allow more than 3? Can you give me those agency names please, and the maximum number of handguns?

I am also interested in knowing how the agency issues the paper version of the permit. Do they attach an addendum? Do they print the list in a tiny font?

Thank you in advance

Mendocino County states 3 handguns on permit is standard but will allow 5 with extra fees. Must qualify with each weapon on permit.

I have 5 listed and knew to arrive fully equipped (pre-loaded magazines for autos, sorted ammo for revolvers) so I could quickly transition from one flight to the next without delays. Important for the crews running the qualifying sessions.

They print the list in a tiny font to fit on original license.

Orange County has no limit on handguns you can carry, as long as you qualify with them.

5 are printed on the back of the permit (DL type) and all others (including the 5) are listed on the DOJ rice paper sheet.

Riverside county allows 6 guns max. I'm not aware of any "paper" version of the permit. There's no extra fee for an extra gun. You just need to qualify with the gun.

The back side of your permit card lists each individual gun, the serial number, and caliber. It's in pretty small font but still legible.

Madera doesnít have a limit Iím aware of.
Theyíll also allow you to carry a gun registered in your spouses name, they also provide a free class. You just pay $10? for the range use

Default Thank you, and I should have asked....

Thank you to the responders so far. I didn't think there were this many IA's that offered this. If there are additional agencies not yet mentioned, please add on to this list.

I should have asked, if you have more than three on your permit, what is your reason? I just had a "two is one, one is none" experience: my primary carry lost a sight set screw. My second choice carry needed a cleaning and boing: the recoil spring went flying into never-land in my workshop. My third choice pistol (bulky for summer carry) had to step up until the recoil spring resurfaced.

Honestly I only really need and use three - but I added another three just because I could

I have 6 listed but carry 3 in my main rotation; one about 40% of the time, the other about the same, and the third about 20%; mostly revolves around what I wear or if it’s dirty (from shooting). I like to have options for worst case scenario (Murphy’s law).

I was under the belief that the last CCW legal revisions in 26156 PC limited a maximum of guns on your permit to 5... This is also when they REQUIRED qualification with a firearm, publicly making available the LE agency CCW policy and others. But in doing a quick review of CA PC sections 26150 and 26225 I found all the other requirements except a limit... So I'm wondering if it was removed in the final revision...?
In reviewing the San Diego County SO CCW page, they specifically state that they DO NOT limit the number of guns you can carry or have on your CCW license.
https://www.sdsheriff.gov/i-want-to/...eapons-license

Shasta County used to allow any (I had 18 as I travel and teach firearms classes) and I had to reduce it back to 5 when the law changed.

Trinity County is limited to 3

Siskiyou County is limited to 3

Lassen County is limited to 3

Tehama County is limited to 3

Humboldt County is limited to 3

San Diego County = no limit (per their website)

El Dorado will fill up the permit with guns (unless that has changed)

In my particular case, all five have their role:
1) Glock G19: Totally accurate and reliable, 15 round capable.
2) Glock 36: slim (single stack) .45 auto. Again, totally accurate and reliable.
3) S&W Shield: single stack, compact and light.
4) S&W 442 Airweight: Lightweight, easy to drop onto pocket and carry.
5) Ruger LCR (.38 Special with laser sight grip). My after hours and theater carry gun.

#3 and #4 are favorites.

Dan

You appear have your permit through Madera County Sheriff's Department based on the free range etc.

My permit is through the Madera City Police Department. So different rules. I live in the City of Madera so I choose Madera City Police Department as the process for CCW was so much quicker. Madera City Police Department was about 2 1/2 weeks from finger print date to issue of CCW

Don't take this as entirely accurate for the total number, but the Kern County Sheriff's Office has 10 rows for entering handgun info on their application.

My recommendation is to pick at least one that is the most concealable (and you will thus almost always carry), especially for the summer months when you'll be wearing very light clothing that don't conceal much. The second gun you should add is the one you do your best shooting with. Even if it's slightly bigger, concealment shouldn't be a problem if you choose your gear and clothing with a little care on days that allow for better covering garments. The third gun...your choice.

No youíre right I checked after seeing your original reply. Iíve only ever had 3 on my permit anyways I was just surprised to see there being a limit. There still isnít a caliber restriction for the county, not sure about the city, the time frame was the same for me originally and renewals are about a week. Iím sure that depends on their workload though

It used to be no limit. At one time I had 15. I trimmed it down to 10 for personal reasons a few years back. Previous Sherrif made it 10 because it was too much work for his secretarial staff. Absolutely true.
Not sure what new Sherrifís policy is. Iím up for renewal at the end of the year, will see what happens.

Tulare county says you can have as many as you want even if they have to write up a second page.

As of March 2022 - The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is now allowing up to six weapons to be listed on our CCW License.

I just had my 11th renewal, and picked up my latest CCW License renewal a couple of weeks ago. I took my additional new weapons to the HCSO main station in Eureka, and went thru the serial number verification process, for the additional three new weapons to be added to the back side of my latest license. It is a laminated hard card, and we have not had the "rice paper" licenses since 2016...

I have Walther, CZ, and Ruger, for my listed 6 CCW weapons.
