Same question here. did anyone get a recent answer on this since felicia segura took over?

I don?t think you should jump any steps without waiting for the go ahead. I believe you are just causing more delays and confusion especially when things like lives can get sent to sheriff?s mailbox cluttering up for others and they have no record to proceed.

Good to know, I completed training on 9/9 with Saber Tacticw and was expecting at least a month before the approval. In your case that happened quite fast.

Oh nice! You?re almost there.

After I uploaded the class certificate and the CCW Firearms Proficiency form to Permitium, I sent an email to SHF.SOCCW@shf.sccgov.org letting them know that the documents are uploaded and that I am ready to submit final payment. Maybe this helped speed things up? I received an email from Permitium 2 hours after I sent the email, so I would give that a try if you haven?t already.

Congrats. 7 months door to door almost to the day...... given I'm still caught behind the mid-April "appointment clinic" date, I'll probably be lucky if I can finish this prior to 2024 at current course and speed.... we shall see.

Congratulations to everyone so far!

I am currently applying for a modification to my permit. It’s a different process compared to applying for a CCW, but will see how long it may take.
Good reminder for everyone is to make sure everything and the firearms you want listed on your application is set and good before you do the training qualifications.

After months of quite literally zero progress or communication, I sent the CCW team an email yesterday and surprisingly received a response first thing this morning. FWIW, this was their reply:

Quote:
At the time of your interview, your background check was not completed. This is not your fault nor anyone else's fault. Our records division is getting an overwhelming number of backgrounds they need to check due to the high volume of applicants. Your background has already been checked, but there was a little delay. As of now, you are pending your psychological evaluation. Once our vendor gets to your name, they will reach out to you via email to schedule an appointment.

Best Regards,

CCW Unit
Reading between the lines, it appears that "jumping the gun" and getting those on-site interviews out of the way in April for many of us just changed the bottleneck to stuff on their backend doing the background investigations, which might explain why the actual interview dates have no bearing on the sequence of names being sent to LEPS for psych examination.

Ultimately, we are still at the mercy of the SCCSO (intentional) lack of resources being devoted to clearing the CCW backlog.

Working as intended to slow walk this entire process of giving permissions slips for civil liberties. Imagine if registering to vote took this long? Hilarious.

I'm impressed.... you submitted your application online on 12 March 2023 and managed to get approved faster than the countless others that started in Feb?

None of this makes any sense any longer. Lol.

Can you remind me at what stage we can add or make a change to the firearms we want to be permitted for? I tried in the initial interview but was told I could not do it at that time.

Should be anytime before range training/qualifications. I was able to add a firearm to my application before LEPS. Recommend sending an attention grabbing subject line that makes it clear that you actually need assistance, and you?re not just asking for a status update

Yeah, no one chimed in. So, I just did mine as well. I did not change the name as that is what they have on the form they provide.

So, I just missed my follow up appointment with LEPS because the link they sent for the meeting didn't work. I sent an email letting them know. Hopefully I get rescheduled sometime soon.

Got the email today to schedule the psych proctored test.
They had about 10 appointments remaining for tomorrow (9/21) and Friday (9/22).

A bit peeved that they give you such short notice. It was either the next two days, or no other appointments available. I had to move some meetings around to be able to do this tomorrow.

I had received a similar email in August, but no slots were available. I did send a follow up email to LEPS last week, so maybe that helped move things along?

Now that things are moving, maybe I'll go ahead and do the LiveScan.

I'm not a fan with how the whole thing is handled, but it could be as simple a, or another, shrink became available or was hired/onboarded.

I disagree. It is the Sheriff's fault for not assigning appropriate resources necessary to "process" our constitutional right. Further, their response almost implicates them in violating the State and their own CCW policies. They are obligated to provide a yes or no response to a CCW application within 30 days of receipt of background check. It is obvious they are sitting on Live Scan results for MUCH longer than 30 days! My Live Scan approval took 15 weeks!!! Absolute nonsense. We all know a Live Scan takes less than a week to be responded to for the vast majority of people with clean records.

If only it could be proven that the Sheriff is holding background check results longer than 30 days, we could sue him into compliance with the law.

Makes me wonder- what's the point of a Chief or Sheriff handling only their own city or county? If the CCW laws and permit are statewide- give getting a CCW statewide access and let folks apply to any Chief or Sheriff. I acknowledge there would be some logistic issues, but folks know that going in.

Hi all,

April 12th interviewee here. I completed the test portion of the psychological evaluation this week and scheduled the interview portion for late October. LEPS appears to be offering appointments for 10/26, 10/27, 10/30, and 10/31.

Hope this helps with understanding the timing of this process.

I am trying to get this done before the end of the year.

Wow, well done! Congrats!

The time between your training completion and CCW approval (2 days) is impressive.

With SB2 passing, does that mean we’ll only be able to exercise our $1000+ CCWs (if we even get it before the EOY) until Jan 1st 2024? After that we’ll pretty much only be able to carry in the car?

I have a feeling they aren’t handling applications FIFO… my appt was May 18th and I did my psych eval last month. They did respond to me the day after I bugged them (leps) via email for the 2nd time though. Maybe that did the trick.

I got the email for the livescan 4 days after I started the livescan. The form on their website still shows Sgt. Russell Davis so I think it’s fine. I regret not doing the livescan 2-3 weeks ago, otherwise that would have shaved off some wait time of our limited time left to exercise our rights

With SB2's restrictions, you wouldn't even be able to reliably carry in the car without fear of violating the law.

PC 26230 will restrict carrying on streets and sidewalks adjacent to many places including schools and playgrounds. Given how many schools and playgrounds there are around here, you wouldn't be able to drive down the block without potentially passing a school.

Furthermore, there are prohibitions to carrying on parking lots. This is a quote from the May v. Bonta SB2 lawsuit:
Quote:
Plaintiffs are forbidden to exercise their rights where a municipality
provides city-owned public parking in a downtown area or shopping
center to allow for commerce to be conducted. CCW holders cannot
park in those areas, notwithstanding that the CCW holder is present in
that parking lot to transact business wholly unrelated to any
government function or agency, e.g., to make purchases at a mall,
deposit cash at a bank, etc. Under SB 2, every municipally owned
parking lot is now a no-go ?gun free zone? for concealed carry permit
holders exercising their rights to public carry of arms. Plaintiffs may
have no idea they are even violating the law if it is not clear who owns
the building or parking lot they have entered.

...

If Plaintiffs (or other permit holders) park in a parking lot of an
establishment where alcohol is served while they are carrying, even if
they do not enter that establishment, they are in violation of SB 2.
Basically if you want to carry in the car while staying in compliance with SB2's "sensitive places," you need to carefully plan your route to avoid hundreds of streets that are off limits because they are adjacent to a "sensitive area" and also do a property records search for every parking lot you plan on entering to make sure it's not a prohibited area. Totally convenient, right?

Wow so it basically went from ”you can’t get your permit” to ”you can’t use your permit at all”.

This is sad considering how much money we paid for the permits too
I wonder how many shops will actually have those signs saying CCWs are allowed. Maybe I should create a website that helps list out CCW friendly businesses to support lol

I added a third gun to my application after sending the original application in. Qualified for all 3 guns and listed on my certificate. Picked up license to discover third gun was not added. Was told to contact them Sheriff?s office) back in about 6 weeks. I noticed on Pertinum website a place for modification, next appointment is in April by than my qualification will probably be void. About 3 weeks into having my license I emailed the Sheriff?s department on how to exactly should I go about adding the 3 rd gun . 2 weeks later, crickets.

Sorry to hear that - at what specific step did you add the third gun? And how did you add it? (Email to SCSO, Permitium, etc)
