The board is running at a glacial pace. Log in is not recognized at some sub forums. Can not post at them.

I'll second the 'running at a glacial pace' comment above and the being logged in is not being recognized, for me, seems to be dependent upon where I click from; e.g., if I click from my "Threads Started By..." list, it often fails to recognize I'm logged in and has since the move. (That's not counting the near continuous failure of the system to recognize I'm actually logged in when I first sign in, forcing a refresh to be recognized; something I know has been driving TPTB nuts.) The 'glacial pace' has been, largely, today and is, somewhat, inconsistent; i.e., it works fine one minute, then moves 'infinitely slowly,' often requiring a refresh.

Very intermittent issues for me. Login seems ok albeit slow but posting edits and posting new threads result in this at the first attempt but often go through on second try. Something is definitely wrong:

Yes, painfully slow and glitchy. The forum is broken. It has been months.

Perhaps a new I.T. service person is needed. IT has been about five months since it worked right. They clearly do not know how to fix it, or do not care. The members must be leaving? It is not worth the time to fight the problems here.

It is such a pain to post anything that I am giving up. I'll check in from time to time.

0530 hours, today 9/13/23.
Calguns is quick and crisp at this very moment.
Whatever it was might be fixed; maybe even better than before the "slowness".

Another problem is that the forum software needs to be updated. We're running vBulletin 3.8.11, and they are now selling version 6. Version 3.x.y is EOL at this point (end-of-life).

The EOL status for version 3 was declared in December 2017.

I don't know if this is the latest and greatest, but Kestryll posted on this back in May... SERVER ISSUES UPDATE...

I reached out to vBulletin staff and I think we have the answer.

Most if not all of the issues are related to the database and that seems to be where the problem is. Our old server ran an older version of MySQL which worked with vB 3.8.11. When we moved I knew the later versions of PHP were going to be a problem so I paid to have our server temporarily set up with a legacy version of PHP. I hadn't realized nor considered that the later version of MySQL would have it's own problems. Every reported bug I'd seen had been related to PHP versions.

Apparently in MySQL 8.0.x certain words were reclassified as 'reserved'. Since they were not classed as such in the earlier version this is causing problems on the forum since the new server is running 8.0.32.

So, there are two options to address this, one really because the other is incredibly impractical.
The first would be to go through the database finding each and every usage of these words and encase them in backticks, this is the insanely impractical option.
The second is to update the forum to vB 5.7.4. The 5.7.x series of softwares has coding in it to account for these reserved words.

In the very near future I will be contracting with vBulletin to have them handle the update from 3.8.11 to 5.7.4 since it's such a significant leap in versions. If something goes wrong they can figure it out since it's their coding.

Unfortunately this means there will be some 'losses'. The Blog hasn't been supported as an add on in years so we will likely lose whatever blog posts have been made.
iTrader is old enough to buy alcohol and has been unsupported long enough to vote. I doubt it will work but I'll try to reinstall it after the update.
I suspect there will be a few other things that will have to be looked at for compatibility as well. We'll find out after the vB engineers look at the install.

We'll probably be down for a couple of days from what I've read, hopefully less but it all depends on how we arrange the chicken bones and feathers and how good vB's voodoo is.

Once I have an idea on the dates I'll post them up.

Pages will not update when using phone (using tapatalk); desktop access is fast

Edit: I cleared the tapatalk cache, restarted my phone, re-logged-in to Calguns and the site is now working fine on my phone...

Yes, I am sure that they are working on it. It is just another piece that needs to be resolved before we can get back to a situation where people aren't having problems being logged in, etc. That, and resolving the database issues which have crept in.

Forum was working great since the server move, but for the last 2-3 days, its been super slow for me. Even timing out sometimes. I'm on a wired connection with 800Meg internet.

Something defiantly happened.

since the moment i clicked on this site, even before I registered, i have been experiencing issues with the whole site. It takes a long time to load if it does not time out. the other problem that i am having is no matter what I click on it either takes forever to load anything or it gives a message of " This site can?t be reached www.calguns.net took too long to respond. "

EDIT: how do post images that are not URLs?

I have to try multiple times to log in, it just sends me back to the login screen. Once I get in, if I try to review a PM I have received, it throws me back to the login screen. I can't seem to get to my messages no matter what I try.

Try switching versions from 1.1 to 1.0 after logging in, or vice versa. Then navigate to a thread. It seems to accept that you're logged in after that.

Having moved to a new server in March some one was gyped. This is the slowest site I have been on and requires several steps just to log in and then post.
Is there an update you could install?

Default Issues to log in

Hi,
At log in time Getting message "click here if the browser can't redirect you automaticly" for a split second. Even I manage to click on this message in time, it takes forever to log in. Sometime I have to repeate this procedure many times to be able to log in.
Thanks.

IT is operating at a "glacial" pace again today. It is spooling for about 30 seconds. Clearly, nothing has been fixed. It is not normal for a forum to work with glitches some days, then slow down or crash other days. IT needs to be addressed if the forum is going to continue. It is not OK, most members will give up on coming here.

I think that continued poor performance for what appears to be becoming an extended period of time is detrimental to the ongoing popularity of this forum. I am wondering how all the paid advertisers are viewing this...I hope the problem is solved. This is a very special place in the interweb....

Congrats on finding a solution...performance is now lighting fast for me! I am curious as to what the problem was if Kes or anyone else in the know wants to comment?

I noticed that there is at least one thread that has multiple posts in it but shows zero post count. So the user is bumping but it doesnt move the post to the first page and thread doesnt update its post count.
