Default Ammo Brothers Cerritos -Never Again

I met a fellow Calgunner at Ammo Brothers in Cerritos this morning and, it was a total nightmare. Despite there being no more than 4 customers in the store, it took a good hour before they called our name.

The seller had a Federal Limits Apply license and they insisted that he needed to have a Passport or Birth Certificate in order to start the process. He drove home (about 45 minutes round trip) and picked up his birth certificate. Once he got back into the shop, we had to wait another hour for our name to be called (despite no names being in front of us).

The seller produced his drivers licence, the birth certificate as well as another document from the DMV explaining why the spelling of the first name was different. No dice! So, we wasted a total of 2.5 hours for no reason.

When I got home, I called my preferred FFL in Torrance and, they said the seller does not need a second form of ID...The Federal Limits Applies license was just fine.

Besides misinterpreting the law, Ammo Brothers has to be one of the most inefficient businesses I have ever seen. In the 2.5 hours that I was there, I do not think there were any successful transactions. Several employees were milling about but, it did not appear that they were actually doing anything.

Did I just catch them on a bad day or is this typical?

Ammo bro’s in Ontario are usually pretty cool and friendly to deal with. I’ve only had bad experiences at turners in chino hills with rude staff

I have done plenty of ppt's at the Cerritos store. Never a problem. But I have proper I'd and so has the seller.

Odd. I sold a lower at Aces Pawn and only needed to show my ID. Buyer only showed ID and FSC. I try to stay away from gun shops for PPTs. They want you to buy their guns, not others

I don't prefer Ammo bros in Cerritos unless i absolutely have to. But unfortunately what you said about wait times is pretty consistent with my expericences as well.

Last time i was there was in Oct. to help my uncle do a PPT. Four people brehind the counter. With one customer being helped. We had our name on the clipboard but we still waited an hour to be helped for the PPT. If my uncle didn't live in the area and didn't mind traveling elsewhere i would have recommended to do the PPT elsewhere. We arrived at 11am for the PPT we didn't leave until 2 pm.

I have to admit i miss the old ammo bros when they were just selling ammo, but i understand with any business they needed to expand.

That doesn’t apply here. I’ve been to other ammo bros and they don’t care about seller real ID. Only for the buyer is it needed.

It could be an isolated incident or Turner’s employee transfer. Who knows.

I'd rather go to Turners for a PPT. And that's saying something.

It is obvious that, with some notable exceptions, most LGS have no interest in PPT's and it shows.

I have had equally bad experiences at both Turners and Ammo Bros...

Wrote off AB for the same reasons as OP... oddly Turner's saved the day on the PPT that AB wouldn't handle.

The Real ID fiasco continues....

Ammo Bros in Perris is also bad. 30 minutes to buy ammo. Never went back after that.

I bought from a seller there last month and they messed up twice on the same transaction:

1. Before the seller arrived, I asked the clerk to add a FN 5.7 from their inventory onto the DROS that was started for the PPT. He didn't and closed out the DROS. When I asked him why he didn't do what I asked him to, he said I didn't say anything about it while we were filling out the information. I decided not to pay another DROS fee.

2. When I picked up the PPT after the 10 days, a different clerk told me I'd have to re-DROS because the original clerk that screwed up above wrote down the seller's ID as a driver's license, but it was a California State ID card, not a DL. Listening to two clerks argue, I learned that it had happened a number of times before and one of them had been denying release and requiring an additional DROS. The senior clerk told him to release the item to me because it could be notated.

This was the second PPT I've done there, and I won't be going back for any future firearm purchases/transfers.

Sadly, it is now typical for the ignorant counter monkeys at AMMO LIARS. To make up Ch!t, then espouse non-existent laws as justification for their own ignorance, and extra legal store policies.

Reasoning for my change of opinion regarding AMMO LIARS is included in the thread link supplied above by "eagle eye".

I’ve done several PPT’s there, as well as Santa Ana and Riverside. Both as a buyer and seller. Never had an issue, it’s become my go-to place for ppt’s

Nothing recent, but I have done a few PPTs at AB Santa Ana. All have been quick and easy. Clerks have been courteous and respectful. I always try to buy something while I am there, like mags or primers, because I appreciate a good PPT and want to encourage good behavior.

I stopped going to ammo bros in cerritos years ago due to the exact same reason and the attitude I would get like if I was bothering them when I would try and buy a firearm or ammo, and it wasn't just a few times was constantly that way

I’ve done PPTs at every Ammo Bros and have generally had a good experience. I avoid them on weekends because that’s when they get busy. The one time I regretted going was on a Saturday. It took forever, but there wasn’t a choice. I’ll always take them over Turners.

I’ve had four similar experiences in AB Cerritos this year. Plenty of staff visible behind the counters. Only one helping customers. NEVER a quick/easy stop at this location. Calling @Redman!

I’ve had plenty of excellent experiences at their Corona and Santa Ana locations this year. But Cerritos? Sheesh....

I had a similar experience at Bass Pro. I was the buyer and they gave the seller a hard time because he had a PO Box on his license. They said because if I didn’t pass DROS he would need to provide more info or they would have to turn the firearm over the authorities

I live 5 mins away. I will never go back. It's been about 5 years. I'd rather drive to lax OC in Huntington or turners signal hill than AmmoBros in cerritos.

The reason:

Well, once when my wife went in looking for some bday gifts and asked some questions they made her feel like an idiot.

I won't give them my money ever again...

I'm sure they won't care but I'l feel better giving my money to another business.

I read the linked thread and I have a bit of a bone to pick with your assessment of their policy. If they’re selling the cheap Chinese locks for ~$7 I think they’re actually pocketing about tree fiddy.

Actual cost for cheapy chinee lock with their logo was $Six Fiddy Tree after tax.

Lets split the diff and call it "two fiddy tree" profit.

Considering "time spent" from the mental midget minimum wage mentality manager "Marcus". Lying to me for 1/2 hr. cost "Ammo Liars" more than they made on the lock.

IMHO...........any business that blatantly and consciously lies to their customers. Don't deserve customers.

A driver's license, even one that says "Federal limits apply", is a proper ID.

I've always thought that a happy customer in your store is better than a pissed off customer walking out the door. I'll never understand these shops that frown on ppt's. You have two customers in your shop now and one of them returning in 10 days.

I've been to the Ammo Bros store in Ontario around 6 times, a few of those times I was the only customer. It's not like people are beating down the doors to get in.

I also will punish FFL's that give attitude for doing a PPT with little to no future business but I do see where the attitude can come from when people do them constantly and give 0 other business which I try to avoid.

Ammo Bros is fast becoming Turner's lite. I am less likely to do a PPT at one except they are open Sunday and have convenient locations. But they have little I want to buy and service can be uneven.

It depends, if Brett does it maybe 10 or potentially 15 minutes. If Kris does it, she tries to get you in and out before the 3 minute door chime on the lock goes lol

I am an FFL in Rancho Cucamonga, vist us at https://www.2azone.com

I've been there twice for deals. Both times less than 30 minutes in and out.

Maybe I got lucky? There aren't a lot of great alternatives I know of in the area.

Picked up a purchase there last month. Over an hour wait as it was reviewed, set aside for the "second eyes" then more miscellaneous waits as the sales people chatted with each other, took phone calls, or disappeared into the back. They did say "sorry for the wait" at the end. All this while the store was almost empty.

Typical ppt time at my favorite place is about 10 minutes and the pickup about 5 minutes. I used to buy a lot of things from Ammo Bros in Cerritos but rarely find myself there these days.

Pretty much this.

In the past, I've had two PPT's at AB go just fine (~1hr from start to finish each).

Cerritos is awful.. lazy, slow employees.. almost nobody in the store and took forever.. and that was years ago.

Santa Ana was ok as was Ontario..

I still remember Ammo Bros jacking up ammo prices sky high during the panic.. not a fan of the company.

It took me longer to find my box in the stash at Gunfighter than it took to process, pay and leave. That's with an illegal alien driver's license. They didn't want to see my passport.

I blame the CA for all the document requirements and I blame the probably some sort of harassment/threaten during the FFL routine audit.

BUT handling just 4 customers for 1 hour is unacceptable.
