Thumbs up UNIVERSAL AK47 & AR15 THUMB GRIPS FOR FEATURELESS AK's & AR's

So this is my prototype(available now) universal AK thumb grip /rest for featureless AK's and AR15's. Works with any grip wrap fin or grips like the strike industries AK & AR simple grip.

The AK version comes with or without a sling loop attachment point on the other side and is reversible for lefty shooters.
Fits most AKM pattern AK's with a loose grip nut ( I'll also be making one for milled & Yugo AK's with a riveted grip nut ).

AR15 thumb rest / grips come in right or left handed versions and will also fit AR10 & SCAR models. Four different versions available and are as follows 1) short straight 2) short flipped up end 3) long straight 4) long flipped up end.

AR15 thumb grips will be available for sale 6/10/2019.

The inexpensive strike industries AK simple grip feels great with the thumb grip.

I'll be interested in 2 if;

No sling loop on opposite end

Doesn't protrude as much for those with small thumbs

Does not look comfortable, at all. I would consider it if it was made with any sort of ergonomics in mind. Make it thicker and round it off, break all sharp edges. It should be more than just a place for your thumb to rest. It should be made so a thumb can get serious but comfortable purchase to assist in gripping the rifle.

Its more comfortable than it looks and the "rest" is really a grip. It allows for plenty of purchase. I can control the rifle with the one hand same as I do with my AR15 exile machine grip ,but I was thinking of adding a rubber rap around grip as an option. Bottom line is it'll be a cheap add on for people with existing grip wraps and wanting more control. I will look into rounding the edges further, but it did spend some time in a tumbling machine to deburr the edges.

I could do no sling loop.

It sticks out a little bit less than 1 inch (1/16 short) I was
trying to make it fit for the average persons thumb size (I don't have large thumbs and it fits me fine).
As a reference your charging handle sticks out about 1 & 1/8 inch.

Have you considered dipping the thumb rest part in plastidip? May be more comfortable than bare metal, not sure of longevity since I've never really used it.

You might try dipping it instead of a rubber rap or rounding the edges... You can get the plastic dip coating at "TAP Plastics" in the bay-area or maybe at a "Home Depot" near you...it's what tool handles are coated in, good grip and covers the sharp edges...easy to use...try it... you will like it...I have used it for many projects.

Hacksaw and file or bench grinder would make quick work of that sling loop if someone wanted to get rid of it.

In your recent pic it looks like some rubber fuel line or something slipped on? Not a bad idea. The plastidip may also be interesting.

It could also be drilled and tapped then all sort of stippled or checkered hump shapes could be attached, in various sizes to fit the user. Or even a thumb ring.

Have you tried one out of 1/8" or 3/16" Kydex? It may be strong enough and cheaper/faster to mfg for people who do not want sling loops.

Anyhow, I'll be interested in one when you are ready to ship. Keep us updated.

Yes the sling loop could be ground off easy, but I'll make some with no sling. It is a great attachment point for your sling tho.

That photo is rubber fuel line on it, but I think I like the plastidip idea better. Might even put optional sandpaper tape over the plastidip for even more grip. I'll be testing all options.

Yes I tried Kydex and its a no-go not strong enough.

I'm still working/negotiating pricing, but will keep it as low as possible.
The grip fin came with a rifle I bought a while back so I have no idea who made it. It might be homemade or a monkeeboi grip wrap not sure.

Why not just do the same thumb rest on both sides? Drill a hole in each side for the sling clip. This would make your rest truly ambidextrous? Simpler too.

Not everyone shoots right handed all the time. Even "righties" shoot "leftie" sometimes when using barricades...

That would make your gizmo truly "universal".

Yes I was thinking of double sided thumb rest for the milled AK. Due to the design of the milled you can't turn the thumb rest 180 like the regular AKM.

You can still shoot ambidextrous as is just won't have a thumb rest on that side. If there's a demand for a double sided thumb rest I could do it.

nice! this is the exact reason why I'm trying to modify my MIAD to with my AK, so I can use the Exile fin with the thumb rest.

Nice Job! I like it...Let me know when they are up for sale I'll probably get one then up to 10 if that's the route I end up going. Thanks for posting and coming up with something that's simplistic.
