Default Be careful out there bounty hunters pretending to be federal law enforcement

There is a company based out of LA called US Fugitive Service that is pretending to be an agency of the government. They even have fancy wallets, with metal badges on the outside. They are bail recovery agents aka bounty hunters.

I'm pretty sure of the answer to this question, but perhaps someone in law enforcement can verify it for me: Are bail bonds agents a branch of the federal government, in any way, shape or form?

My understanding is that they are not law enforcement. They must be registered with the state of CA Insurance department, just like security guards.

What specific actions are they taking where they are pretending to be part of the government? Are they claiming to be federal law enforcement?

They are authorized by federal law, but they are not part of the government in any way shape or form. But it's all a moot point since Ca will do away the the bail system in a few short year's, putting them out of business.

They came out of a house, claiming to be undercover. When I asked which agency they worked for they would not answer. And even better, I asked if they were bail agents, that set them off

So at what point did they claim to be federal law enforcement?

I'm not seeing anything here that would fit the claim by the OP that they were "pretending to be federal law enforcement".
So OP, were you harboring a fugitive? What is the real issue?

No...the individuals that are in this type of work are not any type of law enforcement especially federal. The fugitive recovery people that work in California are covered under penal code 1299 and they have specific training requirements. They can only wear vests that state BAIL BOND RECOVERY AGENT, BAIL ENFORCEMENT, or BAIL ENFORCEMENT AGENT only. I see from their website they are out of compliance because on their website it has a photograph that shows someone wearing a vest that has USFS AGENT on it which is out of compliance. The one problem with the bail industry is it is not much regulated when to comes to the fugitive recovery portion of it. Also they are not legally permitted to carry a firearm while doing this type of work but do under a certain penal code which allows someone to possess a weapon while in the commission of making arrest. This law is abused by the fugitive recovery people. I worked in this field for almost 2 years and I came across a lot of clowns and wannabees.
