So. Cal Gunsmith - Stock Work
It's time to get my son a centerfire rifle and thinking of getting him a used rifle and reworking the stock to fit him.
Do you all have any recommendations for a smith who is good with this kind of work? I assume we'll need to cut down the stock, put a recoil pad on it, and sand down some material in the grip and forearm for his hands. Looking for someone in the southern california area so I can take my son and the rifle in person for the right fit. Much appreciated! |

Your son will grow faster than you think. Soon he will outgrow the modified stock-been there, done that.
See if you can get an inexpensive aftermarket stock from Boyds. Modify that one and save the original for future use. |

Good advice! He's eight now--and not a big eight at that--so he really needs about 12-inch length-of-pull to be comfortable. He was shooting Remington 870 Youth shotguns over the weekend and I think their 12-3/4" LOP was still too long for him, especially with that action's long forend. He has a Savage Rascal that is perfect for him, but he's outgrowing it.
