Default POA State to State Transfer

My Step Grandfather had to go to a Living Facility in WA a few days ago. He had a few guns an M1 Garand? 1911 and a Ruger .22 that needs to get out of his house so no one breaks into it and steals it.

I only have a few days up here, as I was designated his Durable Power of Attorney. How can I get these guns back down to California in my care as he will unfortunately never return home.

I'm roster exempt if it helps. I could probably get a 10 day letter from my agency if I really need to.

In San Diego. Anyone know an FFL that deals with this type of issue?

Federal laws prohibits the transfer of firearms between residents of different States unless a FFL it utilized. [18 USC 922(a)(3)&(5)]

WA laws prohibits the private party transfer of firearms unless it is through a FFL. [RCW 9.4.113]

CA laws prohibits a CA resident from acquiring firearms while out-of-state and importing those firearms into CA without using a CA FFL dealer. [PC 27585(a)]

Therefore; under Federal, WA, and CA laws...

1. The firearms need to be shipped to a CA FFL dealer. Include a copy of the owner's WA DL/ID.
2. The CA FFL dealer will then transfer (4473/DROS/10 day wait/1 in 30 day wait) the firearms to you.
