Insight on CCW 16 hour course - Sacramento
Is anyone familiar with the CCW 16 hour course provided by The Gun Authority in Rancho Cordova (Sacramento area)?
I need to complete the course in March. With my busy schedule the only date I have available is a course offered through them. If anyone has any experience, good, bad or indifferent, please share. Thanks |

I've been to the shop. I personally haven't taken the course there but, they do have a respectable classroom space. Not sure where they go to conduct the live fire. Closest range is at the down the road at the Rancho Cordova range off Douglas but, they do their on course there. I don't suspect they allow other schools to go there. Unless of course they do allow it...
I guess I haven't offered very useful information...

After stopping in earlier this week I had a chance to find out about their CCW course. I then decided to take the course and I'm glad I did. Great training and my instructor was top notch. I qualified & will be doing my re-cert through them when it's time.
DoubleTap - if you're wondering they conduct the live fire at The Gun Range. |

I just did mine there. Every guy there is class act and easy going. They even worked with me on rescheduling my Qual day since when I was there I decided to buy a new pistol. They waited for it to arrive and met me at the range with it one on one just so I could Qual with my new pistol. I've taken friends here now to buy guns. Super nice guys here.

I'm not intending to take anything away from The Gun Authority - their gunsmith Rusty helped assemble my AR15 (Samson 9-EX and Adams Arms piston..pain in the butt with very little clearance) and the shop has been super friendly.
I took the 16 hour course at Best Handgun Training with John Taylor in Lincoln, CA for folks up north interested and stumble upon this thread. Great guy with several ex-LEO instructors who provide a safe, informative, and fun class. Last I remember: $175 for initial ccw, 20% discount for LEO/FF/Mil/First responder, and they also offer the Utah ccw application/fingerprinting for $75. |

ffemt - is Best Handgun Training the one that does the 16 hr course in one day? I heard there was a place in Lincoln that combines the two day training into one. Might be useful for those who can't carve out two whole days on the weekend.

That's correct, well worth it to knock it out in one day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

CHL Training Classes
Obtaining a concealed handgun license is fairly simple if you do it via the appropriate routes. The most efficient way is to do it online via a Sheriff's program.

The post to which you've responded is over a year old and quite dead. Since you posted a link to an online course for an Oregon CHL, you may have missed the subject of the thread which pertains to information on a specific CCW course held in Sacramento CA. Online courses for Oregon won't qualify for the CA CCW. But the info might be helpful in the "Non-California Permits/Licenses For out of State License/Permit" discussion. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...play.php?f=378 Best. +1 for Best Handgun training in Lincoln. Took the initial 16-hour course in one day, and just did a requal with him. Excellent class both times. Got my Utah CCW through him too. Highly recommend.

This post has come back to life. I did my original course at the gun authority. Don't believe they're around now.
It's now time for my renewal so I'm considering options. I bought a living social coupon for best handgun & I'm looking to use it. Anybody do their renewal at Best Handgun? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I ended up taking my renewal class at Cordova Shooting Center and recommend it. I've heard good things about The Gun Range too, I just don't have first hand experience to share. |

Thanks. I scheduled to take my class at Cordova next weekend. I wanted to take The Gun Range's class cause they're close to me but I don't want to wait till November, but I've heard good things about them.

Just took the 2 day initial course at One on One Firearm with Joe. Highly recommended. Very professional and you will definitely learn something from his course. He takes safety very serious (as it should be). Definitely will be taking my renewal class with joe.
For those who are worried about the ramge qualification, watch his youtube videos and practice his 5 step draw at a safe area. Also, practice shooting at the range. |
