Just got my number, 17,500 something. Hopefully they get another 10,000 but even then it sounds like it will be years away if it happens

I just saw on the CMP forums someone has RN 18551. What was the final total of applications received?

At this point I think I want to be the last number. Might as well go for the highest number now.

I thought it was 19000+ and was wondering if it was the low or high 19000s. I just saw a 18951 RN posted on The CMP forums so those of us that don't have a number yet should know soon.

So for the guys in the tail end of the 8k lottery e.g. 6xxx-7999

Are you going to commit to purchase if its not a service grade?

If you are called and offered a 1911 it is take it or leave it with whatever grade they have. If you pass, your paperwork is thrown away and you lose.

I will take whatever I can get if I can get anything at all.

Congratulations, so you should be able to see it at your FFL by next week hopefully. Please share some pictures if you don’t mind. I would love to see a field grade example.

Will do. So far I've only seen this one field grade on CMP forums. I almost prefer that if it means I don't end up with a repark.

I was on the road all day with out my cell but when I arrived home there was a message for me from The CMP1911. They want payment info so they can send my 1911 to me. I'll be calling back tomm to confirm everything and then contacting my FFL.

FWIW, I never received an email telling me what number I was assigned.

It pisses me off immensely that they were calling people that requested Field Grade and offering them Service Grade or nothing. Now we hear they're calling people who wanted Service Grade and offering them Field Grade or nothing. Infuriating!

Agree. Will pass if it's not an SG. Its over priced once you figure in sales tax and transfer, but at least it might look decent.

I thought they all were supposed to be service grade?

Oh well, I'm just lucky to have a 4600s number.

Sure hope CMP isnt taking a gun like that, reparking it and charging civilians more for it.

Just called The CMP1911 and I was offered a Service or Field grade. I chose a Service and it should be on the way next week. The whole process took ~10 minutes and as usual the CMP staff had their act together.

Since I had not received a number I ask about my email address and they had entered it incorrectly into their data base and that is why I had not received notification. My number is 3481 so my angst about being in the last 500 was not warranted.

I will of course post pics as soon as it arrives and I pick it up.

Judging by this picture, the field grade looks more "right" than the service grades.

Damn! So if I had missed my Thurs call and called back on Fri then I probably would have had the choice of a service grade too. That's messed up!

Could be, but after seeing the one Field grade it was a tough decision for me. If I had seen other Field grades and they also looked as good as the one posted, I would have gone for a Field. You may end up with a more original 1911 getting a Field.

The only difference in their descriptions of the two is field grade may have "slight rust". Other than that they describe the condition identically.
Of course pictures will tell the tale.

Most Field Grades are going to be rebuilt pistols just as Service grades, just more wear

Pretty safe assumption they are all rebuilt, or been through some level of ordnance overhaul.

Absolutely. I like firearms with their original finish so that 'field grade' is more desirable. CMP probably could have skipped the refinishing process and not charged the extra few hundred bucks for the Service grade. Might not have been as profitable for them.

I'm pretty sure they didn't refinish any of these after receiving them from the Army. The difference in grades is subjective. For instance a gun with slightly more pitting or perhaps a bore that is not as bright may be rated as field grade.

I'd also be surprised if very many of these have their original finish regardless of grade. Most have likely been refinished at least once at some arsenal.

CMP did not refinish any of these. What you are seeing is arsenal refinished/rebuilt 1911's. The Field grades are the same, refinished ,rebuild pistols just with more wear
