Walmart ammo
Well in anticipation of ammo sales in July I've been stocking up on my favorite Walmart ammo. Yesterday I was doing my weekly shopping and when I got to the ammo counter I found a notice. I guess I can keep buying my ammo at Wally world it will just cost a little more.

I buy pistol ammo at Walmart, so I need to check my local store to see if they have the same notice.
I also buy some ammo at Big-5, so will check with them, as well. -P

Was just in mine 2 days ago getting some Win Nato. No sign then. I'll be back there tomorrow and check.

This is good news in that it means at least some Walmarts will continue selling Ammo.

Same sign went up last week at mine as well. The sign is relatively small. It was on the outside of the long gun ammo side/case. If there's no sign, there's a chance your store may stop selling. The clerk told me the lower volume stores may stop because they can't justify the added cost of manning/maintaining the new procedure. No further detail to which stores though.

It's is nice that they are going to continue to sell. I have been finding decent prices on range/plinking pistol ammo lately.
The one week pause on selling is so that Walmart can roll out their new computer system to facilitate the sales. I can afford $1 when I buy 500 at a time. The whole thing sucks, but it is nice that Walmart is still supporting us. |

Walmart has always had good $ on ammo. I bought a bunch 11-12/18 anticipating the then 1/1/19 would have been the start date of this new ammo purchase law. I will see if my local Walmart is going to continue selling as of 7/19
I will check out "how CA laws effect me" thread to see wtf the 411 is on what this "background" check is and how the anticipated system will work. Won't be surprised if "RealID" becomes a component at some point...although this is a "CA state" thing, not Fed. |

I think they’re well aware, and that’s how gun purchases are in free states (without CCW). But CA believes there should be a “cooling off” period even though you may already own an arsenal.

1: I have found the online inventory checkers to be way off.
2: They are having to pull out the current Point Of Sale systems in the stores which will continue to sell ammo. And replace them with new ones just for the ammo counters. Some testing has been going on but I have heard there are still issues. Hope the bugs are worked out by then. 3: Yes, only certain stores will continue to sell ammo. Mostly super centers. Those who no longer will sell ammo, have been sending ammo back to the distribution centers or directly to stores. |

For a moment I thought you meant there will be a 10-day waiting period for ammunition sales.

Basic calibers are always available and stocked well in my local Walmart.
$1 isn’t bad but that’s $1 I don’t need to spend...

It is not about spend an extra buck. They will keep track of your purchase and info. I dont trust some guy working at walmart making minimum wage with my personal info.

Well.....What I heard was..come July1. 2019...
Walmart & other "Ammo Vendors" will charge $1 to enter your info (via your valid CDL) into the "data" base to see if you've DROS a firearm in Ca since 2014. If you have, then the $1 fee will be added to your ammo purchase cost. You would be charged this $1 fee everytime you purchased ammo. Estimated time is approx. 10 minutes to hear back from DOJ. If you haven't DROS a firearm in Ca since 2014, then the buyer will have to complete a forum via the Ammo Vendor, which will be submitted to CA DOJ (very similar to DROS) along with a valid CDL This process will be a one time fee of $15 to $$20 and would be added to the 1st ammo purchase cost along with the $1 "background check " fee with every ammo purchase. Unknown how long it will take to hear back from Ca DOJ. Not trying to spread any FUD. Hopefully a FFL can jump in and hopefully share more info. Last edited by Mr. Beretta; 05-21-2019 at 8:49 PM.. |

Go buy somewhere else, no? DOJ will have your info, not the employee, from Walmart or any ammo.store.

In the lawsuit challenging CA's waiting period (Silvester v Harris), CA DOJ admitted that, due to advances in technology, it takes less than one hour to complete a background check and the waiting period is more of a "cooling off" period, than a time period to complete a background check. The lower Federal Court judge determined that the "cooling off" period was a good idea/reasonable restriction and ruled that it stays in place, but only for new firearm buyers. ^This would have made persons with registered firearms, persons with valid COE, and persons with valid CA LTC permits exempt from the waiting period. CA DOJ appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled that the waiting ("cooling off") period applies to all firearm transferees. SCOTUS refused to hear the case, so the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling stands.

I can hardly wait to read about how a new Calif law requires you to have a "ammo ID card" and require you the buyer to demonstrate safe and proper handling of ammo at each and every purchase. The ID card is annual renewal and for the small fee of only 25 dollars. Must provide a certified copy of your birth certificate to apply, it's for the children in the "TOW" ya know.

Just stopped by the Barstow Walmart and had a chat with the guy manning the counter in the sporting goods department and noticed the same sign. He said that they will continue to sell ammo after they get the system up and running. Since I was there standing in front of the ammo lockup( had fishing line on my shopping list), I picked up a few boxes of 9mm Win NATO, you know, since I was in the big city.

The only reason I still buy ammo at Wal-Mart is for the cheap 12g and an occasional box of this or that. Otherwise I buy online and shipped directly to me. I highly recommend those of you who do hold a 03FFL and COE do so.

Soon to be useless as more and more vendors refuse to deal with California resident purchasers.

Bought some ammo from the Palmdale WM this morning. There was no posted sign. Asked if they were still going to sell ammo after July first and was told they don’t know.
Also purchased some shoot n see targets while there.
