Default Best state(s) for additional CCW permits (UT, AZ, etc.)

In addition to my CA CCW permit, I'm thinking of getting a permit that will allow me to carry in Nevada. I think Utah already accepts my CA permit, but a Utah permit also works in Nevada, Washington State, Wyoming, and a few other states that don't accept the CA permit. An Arizona permit also works in Nevada, and adds New Mexico, but doesn't work in Washington State. I don't know know how the costs, training requirements, renewal process, etc. compare. Or, is there another state permit that would be better? I know it depends on where you travel - I mostly stay in the western states. I've done a little research, but wondered if some of you with non-CA CCW permits have recommendations. Thanks.

AZ and UT are convenient. Do it by mail and while they overlap a lot you get coverage for a few extra from each.

If you want to take a trip to ID (twice, once for training and applying, once to pick up) plus each renewal, they offer their enhanced permit that covers the same as UT and AZ combined plus MN.

Your CA permit will only be good in CA. If you travel in the West a lot, the Utah permit will cover 37 states, I believe, and most in the West, with Oregon and New Mexico being notable exceptions.

The California permit is recognized by 24 states. This does not include a couple of the states who do not have reciprocity, but have constitutional carry. You will, however, need to check your permit - some counties have put language on them at times that says ONLY valid in California.

As stated above, UT and AZ are the easiest to obtain. If you decide to drive to travel rob FL, theirs are good for 7 years and can be done by mail as well. FL gives you the same as AZ, but adding FL. OR would be useful if you want Oregon (assuming you have CA CCW), and good for 4 years. Klamath County issues them m, just call ahead for appt.

Wrong! Thanks for playing....

Kaliforniastan is one of the 10 States (+DC) that DO NOT honor or recognize ANY permit from any other State! Thus there can be NO reciprocity!

The States that do honor a Kaliforniastan LTC do so either thru unilateral recognition (see Texas) or thru what is commonly referred to as "universal recognition" where a State honors all valid permits issued by ANY other State (see Arizona).

Michigan will honor any other State's "Resident" CCW License/ Permit... Non-Resident CCW License is not honored in Michigan.

Oregon will not honor any other State's Resident or Non-Resident CCW License, so that is why I went to Lake County to get my Oregon Non-Resident CHL. Nevada does honor my Oregon Non-Resident CHL, so I am good to go there!
