Default ffl03

If I currently have an ffl03 + coe could I purchase from a private seller directly within California who also has an ffl03 + coe. Could I possibly walk home with the long gun in person? Would I need to notify the DOJ about the purchase as well?

If you have a 03+COE, you can buy a C&R long gun from anyone - they do not have to be a FFL. You can buy it cash and carry. It must be a C&R gun, which means it was made 50+ years ago or it is listed by ATF in the C&R book.

You must register in-state C&R acquisitions within 30 days at CFARS. Fee is $19.

You must register out of state acquisitions within 5 days of returning to the state with the gun.

Also, said gun needs to be in close-to-original configuration, and not sporterized. Unless my recollection is off.

Per BATFE...

C&R status for surplus military firearms requires the firearm to be in it's original military configuration.

Modifying (sporterizing) a surplus C&R military firearm causes the firearm to lose it's C&R status as a surplus military firearm.

If the sporterizing occurred 50+ years ago, then it would still be considered a C&R firearm due to it's age and not because it's a surplus military firearm.
