Looks like AZCDL is into commercial drivers' licenses.

Did you mean AZ CCW?

For Florida...they want your application..a copy of your CCW..a copy your class certificate...and live fire Qualification sheet....
One wet ink rolled fingerprint card..which has to be done at a police station
Passport photograph
State fee 97$
For Utah it's the same...except:
The instructor has to be Utah CCW certified... but...if your CA CCW instructor is Utah certified...then you can use your CA certificate papers for Utah..

Update 6/10/2022: renewal received in US Mail today

I sent in my renewal forms 4-12-2022. My permit expired 5-04-2022. I started following up two weeks ago by email and have since received no response. I started calling a couple days ago and waited in cue on hold for 30-40 minutes each time before I had to hang-up. I had extra time today so I called and waited 1:16 minutes before I reached a live operator. Apparently they are just overwhelmed and lack of staff. She easily found my file and saw it was in the cue for a background check update. She ran that quickly when I was online with her and she then cleared my renewal and said it would be in the mail in a week or so.

Default New Permit Approved in 7 Days

Timeline:
5/27/22- Hand delivered complete application
6/1/22- USPS money order cashed
6/2/22- Permit approved after calling

Here's a breakdown of my experience-

I completed my online training with azccwonline.com which was $59.

Then I flew to Scottsdale on 5/25 to do the in person meeting, which took 9 minutes in total, including the fingerprinting.

I paid them $75 for fingerprinting service and complete document preparation, which is why my meeting was so quick, all I had to do was sign the papers they already prepared.

I paid $85 for them to supply the money order AND for them to hand deliver my packet to AZDPS. This part is crucial, because for $25 I basically jumped the line in front of the mailed applications. They hand delivered on Friday, 5/27.

I called on 6/2 after seeing the money order was cashed and spent an hour and a half on hold before getting to a person. She asked my name and DOB, and said I was in backgrounds. She took about 30 seconds typing away and came back saying my application was cleared and I will have my card in the mail early next week.

In total I paid azccwonline.com $159 in fees to do all the work for me and it was such an easy process, I can't recommend them highly enough.

Why did you call? Didn’t even wait a week.
AZ DPS is pretty good in terms of turn around but give them at least a few weeks. They were pretty slammed a while back.

The staff at azccwonline.com said to call as soon as the check is cashed. It means that they've accepted the application and run the background. If you don't call, it will just sit until they get around to it as many on this thread have experienced. They know more about the process than I do, so I just followed their instructions.

First, congrats on your Arizona CWP!

Sign the papers they prepared? The CWP application is just one page which primarily consists of your personal info and a few check boxes of Yes or No questions. There is a second page, but it's just your name, signature and date!

And you did not "jump the line" in front of mailed applications and in fact, hand delivery of applications has typically resulted in an additional delay and I don't recommend it, unless some epic issue develops with the USPS and mail is not being delivered in a proper or timely fashion.

Thumbs up STATUS UPDATE!

Arizona DPS - CWPU is entirely caught-up! There is NO more backlog for new permits or renewals! All mail is being opened in real time on the date received.

This is worthy of a new thread so here you go and you are welcome!

First this thread ONLY pertains to the processing and related delays for both New and Renewal CWP Applications which are processed by the Arizona DPS Concealed Weapons Permit Unit (CWPU). https://www.azdps.gov/services/public/cwp

These are the DIRECT phone lines for the CWPU based in Phoenix, AZ: (800) 256-6280 or (602) 256-6280

Spoke to my CWPU contact today and there are several issues related to their backlog. The primary issue as most know relates to a staffing shortage, however they are aggressively trying to hire, but can't find candidates who can pass the background check.....

The other problem is screwed up mail service and when you multiple this by their tsunami of applications, it's a real issue and not a scapegoat. It is now HIGHLY recommended that all applications be sent with some form of tracking! USPS Certified or Priority Mail both provide tracking and are what is now recommended.

Another unique problem that has arisen with this backlog is Cashier's Checks! Many of these are only valid for a certain amount of days, depending upon your financial institution. And with their current backlog, the CWPU is opening application mail only to find that the Cashier's Check has expired and the application gets returned to you! The CWPU now recommends to ONLY send USPS Postal Money Orders as they never expire!

As the CWPU receives application mail, they date stamp each individual piece of mail and do not open it. The mail then gets separated into two different queues, one for renewals and one for new applications. They can easily identify the new applications without opening because they contain the fingerprint cards that can't be folded. However, CWPU now recommends that on renewal applications, write ATTN: Renewal in the address label portion of your mail to them to ensure it lands in the renewal queue!

All mail is opened in the order received and as I mentioned above, it is all date stamped, then it is also placed into a bin(s) for that specific date. So as of today, the CWPU is processing mail for RENEWALS received on 11/16/2021 and mail for NEW APPLICATIONS received on 11/02/2021 because they obviously take longer to process.

In regards to RENEWAL applications, once your mail is opened and if there are NO issues, they are processing the application and printing a new CWP within 24 hours. Any questions, pleases post in this thread and I will keep it updated with any new info from the CWPU.
Spoke to Arizona DPS - CWPU this week. The state of Arizona ultimately threw a lot of resources at the CWPU to resolve the massive backlog of CWP applications!

And the CWPU is now entirely caught-up, there is literally NO more backlog of mail and all applications are being processed in real time on the date they are received! I would now suggest only calling after 2-3 weeks from the date that the CWPU received your application if you have not received your CWP or heard from the CWPU. Good Luck!

Thanks!! And I was just going by what others had posted recently of monthlong waits and mailed applications not being reviewed. Glad to see they’re all caught up!

So I just got a manila envelope back from AZ, apparently since I let the permit lapse for more than 60 days I need to start from scratch basically, rolled prints and additional info. Probably not going to do that... AZ doesn't get me any additional states. They sent my money order back.

I never said “interview.” I had an in person meeting with the company where they could verify my AZ ID, as I applied for a resident permit because I own a few houses in Scottsdale. Also I love Scottsdale, and taking a jet there isn’t much of an inconvenience. If my information isn’t helpful, I’m happy to stay off the forum and let you argue amongst yourselves.

Owning houses there does not make you a resident.

There isn't - only the accompanying identification determines resident or non-resident.

Just checked the Money Order and it was cashed yesterday. I initially sent my Application end of May but it was sent back due to insufficient info. I sent it back beginning of this month with the proper info. So if the MO was cashed does that mean I'm good to go? Any idea how long until I get the license? I'm heading to Yellowstone at the end of this month so want to make sure I can carry through Nevada.

Thnaks,

I'm heading to Yellowstone at the end of this month so want to make sure I can carry through Nevada.

Thnaks,
If they cashed your MO...you're good to go..you should have your permit back before the end of june..others have stated that they have cleared out their backlog....any word back from your Florida permit?

Florida is sending me a letter, probably for the same thing. Insufficient information with the training I sent them. I haven't gotten the letter yet so I'm trying to chat with them to see if I can email them a copy of my CA CCW. I'm almost certain that's what I need to move it forward.

That can be easily be corrected.....it'll just take more time...the good thing is you got your California permit to show them.if they request a copy of it....the main thing is getting your Arizona permit before you take your trip in july...

Just finished chatting with them. No go with sending them my CA CCW. I have to either take an approved out of state course or see if the company that I used for my CA CCW is approved.

I'm hopeful that I'll get my AZ CCW before end of month. Funny because I thought my FL would be first.

That's easy to do..just takes more time..once this is done you'll never have to do it again...and it's good for 7 Year's...just pay the renewal fee..

You must have talked to someone new. Pretty much any government issued CCW satisfies the training requirement for an AZ CCW

ARS 13-3112.

...

E. The department of public safety shall issue a permit to an applicant who meets all of the following conditions:

...

6. Has ever demonstrated competence with a firearm as prescribed by subsection N of this section and provides adequate documentation that the person has satisfactorily completed a training program or demonstrated competence with a firearm in any state or political subdivision in the United States. For the purposes of this paragraph, "adequate documentation" means:

...

(d) An original or a copy of a concealed weapon, firearm or handgun permit or a license as prescribed by subsection N, paragraph 6 of this section.

...

N. An applicant shall demonstrate competence with a firearm through any of the following:

...

6. A valid current or expired concealed weapon, firearm or handgun permit or license that is issued by another state or a political subdivision of another state and that has a training or testing requirement for initial issuance.

No, but living there 7-8 months out of the year (too hot in the summer) and paying state tax on income earned there does.
