Sat on hold for 45 minutes over lunch a few days this week without ever getting through. Then, it was in my mailbox today! No idea what the holdup was. Hope they find yours!

The hold wait time seems longer than when I called towards end of march....but I just put it on speakerphone while I was doing something else....first time I called person I spoke to did not ask for any info just saying they were backlogged big time and what day they were currently on for new and renewal applications. When I called last Friday, person I got was very helpful and with my personal info and permit number verified, was told it was mailed out this past Monday (waiting for it to come in mail hopefully tomorrow or Saturday). Just have to be patient and prepared to sit on hold for over an hour it seems lately. If you sent in ur application recently, probably not gonna just push it through if u call, but if it's been we) after 90 days (like mine) when it was received by them, they might fast track it or tell ur it'll be mailed out same day or soon after u called or already mailed out. I'm sure they're still slammed with new applications and renewals, and it seems like they're moving a little faster recently getting them sent out. My advice is to send it in asap or as soon as u can for renewals for whatever application type you have. And get a USPS Money order or one that doesn't expire. I used my credit union but checked to make sure it had no expiration date.

Stay positive and be patient It can be frustrating to have to wait so long esp if ur permit recently expired and you sent in ur renewal application as soon as you could, but being polite and courteous if you call, can go along way.

I just got mine today....112 days, or 16 weeks, about 3 months and 3 weeks. I'm not sure if renewals are going through much faster than new applicants, but regardless, I would wait at least close to 90 days before calling if you do, as I doubt anyone us getting it much sooner that that right now. Remember....use US postal service with a tracking service, get a non expiring money order (postal MO best), make sure all your info (and fingerprint cards for new applications) is correct and done properly, and keep an eye when your application is delivered to them and when ur MO is cashed. Then it's wait and well....wait. Send it in at 90 days before or as close to that if renewal application (I'm not sure what they do if ur application is received more than 90 days prior to expiration, i would imagine it might sit there and have to wait from that date, or could be returned to you).

If you are going to be needing ur AZ permit while traveling in states that honor it, make sure to plan accordingly so you have it or it is not expired (and thus not legally valid). Yes 25 states are now constitutional carry but even with that....if you are carrying and pass through a state that does not have that, your AZ permit must be valid (not expired) in that state (resident/ non resident has 5 less states I believe it's valid in). So be sure to check a CCW reciprocity map that us current as well as the state(s) ur planning to drive thru or visit.

Sorry for long post....just trying to offer helpful information.

I have had multiple positive experiences with other state's law enforcement officers and almost everyone appreciates I have a AZ CCW permit (obviously pro 2A states). In states that don't require a permit to carry, they really appreciate I took the time and made the effort to get it. It really comes down to being a responsible gun owner and carrier....which is what makes them feel more at ease (as much as can be expected) with someone who has a CCW permit.

Just sent my AZ CCW new application. So the wait begins. I also submitted for FL. Gonna be interesting to see how long AZ is going to take. I have my CA CCW so believe me, I can be patient. Lol

I received this from them on April 30th. I sent the renewal in about two months ago.

“Due to our backlog, your application was just entered on 4/29/22. It's making its way through the background check process. Once that is complete, either the permit will be issued or, if additional information about your background is needed, a letter will be sent to you asking for that info. Please email or call us in 30 days for better status.”

You actually got an email back lol? I sent two emails, both went un-replied. Called twice, both times, on hold for over an hour during my lunch break. Had to go back in so I had to disconnect.

But anyways, I was able to get a hold of someone Thursday after almost a 2hr wait. It's been approved and in the mail as of Friday the 6th.

Just a follow-up on my expired AZ permit that was outside the 60 day grace period. Mailed the application, bank money order, prints & expired CCW on 01/24. Permit arrived today after 104 days.

Default Arizona CWP Renewal & New Application Processing

Called them back today and after two hours of waiting, the clerk finally answered. She asked for my name and DOB, after a few minutes, she came back with the permit will be mailed out in a few days.
Not really sure of the reason why it hung up but I did not care at this point; I just thanked her.

Last, she asked for my email address to be put on file. She said they’re going digital for reminder of renewal permit.

Update: Received permit in the mail today. Called them on the 9th, took a week for the permit to arrive.

I called and was on hold for about 50 mins (26 callers ahead of me at 0802) when I was connected with an operator they quickly asked for my Social and name. Told me my permit was processed, Printed today, will be mailed tomorrow to my address.
Seems like they are getting through them quicker but it also seems suspicious that everyone is calling and being told their permit is processed within a couple days of their phone call if not the same day. I'm not saying its aliens, but...

Maybe when u call after a certain point after ur application is received (especially renewal applications) they run it through...mine was told to me over the phone calling on Friday April 29 that it would be mailed on Monday May 2, but the postmark was on Tuesday May 3, received by me in mail May 6. It could have just been put "to be mailed" on May 2 and actually "went out" May 3, or they ran the backround check when i was on hold with the person i spoke to and it actually went out May 3 and they were expecting it to be May 2. All I know for sure was even if u mail it and they receive ur application exactly 90 before ur current permit expires....it seems that it still is taking more than 90 days to process and mail out to u. Hopefully it seems like its getting lil close to 90 days than further away, but a bill in the state legislature will help those who forget its time to renew....

"SB 1177 is still waiting to be heard by the House Rules Committee. It would require the Department of Public Safety to send a renewal reminder notice and renewal application to holders of concealed weapons permits at least 60 days before the expiration date of a permit"

I know this is Calguns, but for this thread....AZ CDL works to stay on top of bills such as these. I have been member since 2017 and they really do help push pro 2A legislation through or stop anti 2A legistion from going through state legislature. For us in who have or want a AZ CCW, they do a lot of good helping fight for 2A rights in AZ.

Wow....that does seem lucky....but are u military or veteran? Maybe they're pushing those application's through faster now.....hard to say as no guidelines or info given other than first come first served....but 5 weeks, that's a lot less than 13 to 17+ weeks most have been taking. Congrats

I have a great appreciation for much of what AZCDL has done for Arizonans over the years. However, I absolutely hate that they are 100% a pay-to-play organization.

Isn't AZ constitutional carry? Within the state you do not need a permit to carry. The pay-to-play perception is for those who want to benefit from reciprocity and carry in states other than AZ. I don't fault AZ for charging for this.

https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/res...p/az-gun-laws/

Summary of Arizona Gun Laws
Arizona is a shall-issue, permitless carry state with concealed weapons permits issued at the state level by the Department of Public Safety.

There is no permit, background check or firearms registration required when buying a handgun from a private individual. A purchaser must be at least 18 years old to buy a gun from a private individual. The minimum age to purchase a handgun from a federally licensed dealer is 21.

Open carry is legal in Arizona for any person who is at least 18 years old and who can legally possess a firearm. Some areas are off-limits, including schools and liquor stores that have posted “no weapons” signs.

Anyone at least 21 years old who can legally possess a firearm, may concealed carry a firearm without a permit. Arizona Concealed Weapons Permits (CWP) are issued to residents and non-residents at least 21 years old or 19 for active military and veterans and require a firearms training course that has been state-approved, although there are training exemptions that may apply to law enforcement and members of the military, to name a few. In terms of reciprocity, since Arizona has permitless carry, any person 21 years of age and older who can legally possess a firearm may carry a concealed firearm on his or her person without a license or permit.

I think you completely misunderstood my post - it was about the organization AZCDL. That organization will not give you the time of day nor participate in their forum unless you pay money.

I don't have a problem at all with the State of Arizona charging its minimal fees for their CCW Permit. Yes, its a constitutional carry state.

Bump, I am interested in this question too. What is the maximum time frame allowed to send in your renewal paperwork and money order, if it is taking 4 to 6 months to process? I checked their website and looked over the renewal application and didn't see this addressed.

I think the long delay was due to previous backlog. Now, it seemed that they've caught up somewhat.

Per their website, you can submit renewal app 90 days prior to permit expiration.

Reading some of the posts, some gotten their permit within a month of renewal application submission if there's no issue.

Yeah, I finally found it under the "Administrative Rules" link. Thanks.

This is why if you submit your permit too early and they receive it too early it might just sit there waiting to be processed if when they open it your permit still has more than 90 days before it expires. I would imagine if one wanted to know with more certainty what they would do 1 could call but apparently you have to sit on hold for a long time regardless so If you send it in 6 months before your current expiration date and ask them to check what the status of your permit is after 30 days they might tell u It just goes in a pile of applications too early. Yes when I got mine I got mine my permit had been expired for over a month and they did not extend the expiration date of my new one but it is what it is. I don't think they make an exception for anyone if that is the case.

If yours takes only 30 days/ 1 month consider urself extremely lucky. Right now if you get it in less than 90 days that us very good as well. Even with submitting mine close to 90 days in advance, it took more than that to receive....could be depends on time of year or month or staffing, but if ur background checks out, u will get it. It might take a while, but you will get it.....assuming also everything else like ur app info and fingerprints for new apps is done properly.

IDK how you guys are doing 1 month renewal and permit in hand but I'm glad it's not 5 months like mine. hope going forward, they have it under control. Just received mine yesterday.

My timeline if it matters..
12/16/2021 - Sent renewal but for some reason USPS screwed up and had it sent back to my resident. I was out on vacation so I couldn't send it back
01/03/2022 - Returned from vacation, went to the post office and handed it to the lady working.
01/05/2022 - Same thing, it was sent back to my residence. I stopped the mailman and asked him why? My mailman said because someone at the post office screwed up and scanned it incorrectly. He assured me he will walk it directly to the supervisor handling shipping and have it mailed out. This time, it did not get sent to my residence. I also couldn't track it because USPS already logged my tracking # as delivered when it originally was never. So I just hoped it went through since it was never sent to me.
05/03/2022 - Called and on hold for roughly 1hr
05/04/2022 - Called again and on hold for roughly 1hr 15mins then all of a sudden got disconnected. It was as if someone came on the line and just placed me on mute.
05/05/2022 - Called again and on hold for close to 2hrs, could've been a little over 2hrs. Didn't keep track as I was already frustrated as it is. Finally got someone on the line. Placed me on hold, came back and said it's approved. Permit will be mailed tmr (05/06/2022). I asked her the reasoning and her reply was because they're short staffed.
05/12/2022 - permit received

What I should've asked was, how is it that some are receiving their permits within a month for renewal and some taking 5months, and some emails goes unanswered?

It could simply be that whatever issues they had back in late 21 early 22 have been resolved

I mailed my renewal on 5/4. It was picked up at the PO Box on 5/7 (they picked up the mail on a Saturday). Postal MO was cashed by 5/12. So, it seems like the process is improving.

I hope so....but we will see if consistently people are getting theirs faster, and how much faster than from beginning of this month. I would imagine renewals are getting done faster than new applicants, but hard to say for certain. It seems like calling after a certain point from when they receive it seems to help, but again, hard to know if its just a coincidence....that if you call after a certain point from when they receive your application, it will "magically" get sent out soon or was sent out not long before you called.

FWIW Utah did my renewal in 12 days. AZ doesn't get me any additional states anymore but I'll mail my renewal in this week just for posterity's sake. Let's see how long it takes.

Same here. Utah is great. Think I’ll just let my Arizona expire in August.

If you let Arizona expire you lose coverage in new Mexico...unless you have Florida, the Florida permit covers new Mexico...if you have the Florida permit no loss...but if you don't have Florida...keep Arizona active..

Congrats to all that have gotten their permits....for those waiting hopefully they're moving faster on processing applications. I would reiterate to those who are renewing their permit, send in ur renewal application as soon as AZ allows you to before your current one expires (90 days I believe). That way, if for some reason yours still takes a while to receive, hopefully it will come before ur current one expires.

Okay, just mailed my AZ renewal with a USPS money order for $43 today. Let's see how long this takes. No real issue here, AZ doesn't get me anything but I don't mind having a backup in case laws change and $43 for 5 years isn't going to hurt me.

Tennessee was 12 days from app to permit.

Utah was 12 days for renewal.

C'mon AZ, let's see what ya got!

FYI, Apex Training is not an approved Arizona trainer. AZ NPS returned my application stating they are not an approved trainer.

Now to take a course that is approved.

I sent in my renewal on 5/10 and they mailed my approved ccw on 5/12. I sent it priority mail. My az ccw had expired the end of March. I did include a copy of my ca driver's license and my current ca ccw.

Do you have a CA CCW? That or a DD214 works for training.

Yes, I do have a CA CCW. I'll just send back the app with a copy of that.

Called them up and they said a copy of my CA CCW will suffice. Should have done that in the first place.
