I just called today to see my and the wife’s status. We sent our initial applications off on Feb 01, 2022.

Both applications were approved and hers was mailed a few days ago, mine will be mailed in a day or two.

Good to hear you and your wife's permits were approved in a lil under 3 months. Are both renewals or new applications?

Did you check the licensing unit website? Does anyone know how long before a new application gets delivered should I expect for that site to show something? Application date 02/14.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That is why you should use USPS money orders.
Never expire and you can check to see if they were cashed.

Mailed our renewals on or about Jan 12th, 2022 and money orders are showing cashed.

It appears the licensing unit portal is NOT for CCW's.
If you look on the right panel of the CCW site CCW is separate from 'Licensing" and not listed in the page.

Welp, that was a time waster for me then lol. Thank you for the information. Looks like I need to be more careful with my reading.

Same here...why I used a money order but from my credit union. They never expire and I can always call or stop by a branch to see if it's been cashed.

I have a question about applying for the AZ non resident CCW. Hopefully someone can help me. Getting your fingerprints done are like 30 bucks a pop everywhere I've looked. You can get the FD-258 cards and ink on Amazon for like 13 bucks. Can you do your own fingerprint cards and send them in with the app? Will they accept that or does it have to be at a accredited business?

For course completion it specifically mentions DD214 as proof of training, holy crap this is better than California.

I did my own fingerprint card. Haven't heard anything back yet but don't yet have the license so can't give an affirmative either way. It seems the worst that would happen is they send a new fingerprint card and tell you to get it done the "right" way.

Just got my renewal in the mail today.
I sent the renewal and money order off in the middle of Jan. Mine expired in March. Just got the new one today, so that's maybe 4.5 months total.

Called them today, after 45 minutes of waiting in que, the lady answered; asked her to check the status. She repeatedly saying they're now processing apps received in March.
So I said, but ma'am, my renewal app was delivered back in December of last year. She asked for my information, after a brief hold, she came back with they have not received my app.
I said the app was delivered by USPS Priority mail and I have the tracking number that proved it was delivered. She also tracked the number and said it was delivered on December 10th.

After some talking on the background, she came back with "I'll call back in a few days after checking with the mail group."

I mailed in 2 professionally made fingerprint cards and used a Western Union Money order. Online CA Hunters Ed to meet the education requirement.

I would goto an accredited business just to be safe....there was a place by me in huntington beach near beach and Talbert called California live scan that charged $20, and I just checked her website and that's still their current price. I would for $7 more go there (or somewhere else) that's where I went to get mine done with my initial application and I had no problems. My application was accepted and my card was issued very quickly. You need to make sure your fingerprints are rolled properly because if they can't read them when they're running through an FBI database your application will probably be rejected and you will be told to get your prints done again.

So can we say a good rule of thumb for now is start the process six months before expiration date?

USPS money order so that should be fine. Been so long I can't find the stub to see if its been cashed. No tracking, mailed it directly from the post office.

Application mailed: 02/14/2022
Call to DPS: Today (05/03/2022)
Initial permit, Finger prints done by professional service (CAL Postal store), Cashiers check cut by my credit union, Application sent priority mail through USPS, DD-214 used for education requirement.
I called and was on hold for about 50 mins (26 callers ahead of me at 0802) when I was connected with an operator they quickly asked for my Social and name. Told me my permit was processed, Printed today, will be mailed tomorrow to my address.
Seems like they are getting through them quicker but it also seems suspicious that everyone is calling and being told their permit is processed within a couple days of their phone call if not the same day. I'm not saying its aliens, but...

Mailed: 1/1/2022
Received: 5/2/2022

Walmart money order, self rolled fingerprint card. the fingerprint card was from like 5 years ago when one had to request the app by mail, i never filled it out and sent it in. used my class cert from calauthorifornia ccw to meet the education req, since it was still a few days before i got the ca ccw in the mail.

rolling prints isn't easy, most of mine were good, but for the couple that kinda came out crappy, i was sure i'd get the request from them to have it redone, but... here we are. practice a bunch before you roll, probably easier to have a friend roll your fingers for you.

Quick question for those who have renewed. Did you have to resend fingerprint card and training certificate? I would think they would have those documents from the original application and I would not need to submit them with the renewal application. The renewal application does not specifically indicate that those documents must be included with the renewal application - it only indicates the completed renewal form and payment.

Thanks

No, the renewal does not require another fingerprint card. As for the training, if your current AZ permit is still valid, or within their grace period, then you don't need to send any more proof. I "think" I still sent them a scanned copy of my AZ and CA CCW cards just in case.

This is pathetic!! Been on the phone on hold listening to that damn music on repeat for an hour. Submitted renewal first two weeks of Jan. Few friends submitted theirs a few weeks before I did and they've called about a month and a half ago and was told to call back in May as they were still processing Nov/Dec applications.

Just called AZDPS for an initial application sent on Dec 4 2021.

My app was flagged for a misdemeanor infraction over 10 years ago. App was approved and released on the call. Permit going out in the mail tomorrow.

How in the world did you manage to get a live person? What ph# is everyone using? I’ve been on the phone for 1hr yesterday and another hr today and cant get ahold of anyone! They also need a better music selection too!

I called that number and the 800#. 1hr and 15min wait then all went silent as if someone picked up then hung up. Didn’t have the time to sit there and redo it all over again with that horrible music. Will try again tmr. Thanks fellas!

After an hour and a half, my call did click and it did a few things, like it was transferring or cycling.

Then the same message I got when I first connected stating that there were 22 people still in front of me, I almost hung up. I thought it had cycled and put me back in the end of the cue. I wasn't happy...

But I stayed connected anyways.

Then in like 6 minutes latter it did that click thingy again and eventually a human answered.

I was ready to stay on hold for a total of 2 hours before giving up.

Made the call today to check on my renewal sent end of month Jan, was on the line for about 1hour 20 minutes. When I finally connected just told the lady I was checking on renewal status and she asked for my permit number. Went on hold for another 3 minutes and then told it will me mailed tomorrow. I highly recommend if you are renewing that you call the number listed in the above posts. Seems like if you do and make it to the live person your permit is fast tracked into the mail.

I highly recommend if you are renewing that you call the number listed in the above posts. Seems like if you do and make it to the live person your permit is fast tracked into the mail.

Sigh, I wished my renewal was as easy as yours. I called just to find out that they didn’t have my application. USPS tracking number indicated it it was delivered.
Still waiting for the clerk to call back, she said she will call in three days from Monday when I spoke to her.
I’ll call her in a few days if she doesn’t call.
