Default UCC in Colorado

I will be traveling to Colorado by car and I am aware that carrying concealed in the car is allowed. I plan to have a my pistol in a holster in an exterior pouch of a small backpack.

I was hoping I could remove the magazine and take the backpack with me when walking around, rather than leaving it in the car. I am more concerned with theft than needing it.

I can't seem to figure out the rules in Colorado on concealed vs transport on foot. Anybody have a good resource?

For all my CCW's you have to be a resident Colorado does not accept California or non-residents to carry. If I were you I would get the CCW since you are there.

Here is their link maybe less than 75 bucks

You can’t get a CCW from CO as they don’t issue to non-residents.

To OP, carry it unloaded in a backpack in a small lockable container.

I was hoping the law changed due to the 2A case. Worth trying or suing either way.

Colorado is an open carry state.

So, there are legal methods of carrying a firearm for protection without needing a valid conceal carry carry permit.

That is what I have done in the past, hoping there would be a little freedom to keep in in an unlocked container instead. In my research for New Mexico, they define concealed as loaded, so removing the mag seems to work.

Although I am not likely to be searched or detained, I am not looking to be a test case, even if likely to win.

I wonder post NYSPRA v Bruen, what that means for states like Colorado that have limited reciprocal agreements. In places like Denver with no OC and no non-resident permit, no recipricol, it's a total carry ban for us visiting from CA.
