Nice! More folks is good!
I was talking on a net up in very rural Oregon the other day and one of the guys wound up being from the small town I live in now, and living not that far from me. Funny how small of a place it is sometimes. |

The next two levels are not any harder, just different content. You might contact Ham Radio Outlet in Anaheim for some guidance on clubs and repeaters near you. The clubs seemed to really quiet down a lot as function of the Covid insanity. 73!

Wow! We're into the KN's already? I'm KK6 but haven't been on the radio for awhile now. Too many authoritarian a-holes here in SLO County.

A few months ago I had started studying for my general and I was having trouble staying focused, so I ordered an Icom IC-7300 to help motivate me and it worked. After studying on hamstudy.org the past few days I took and passed my general class exam this evening.

Not yet. Planning on building a fan dipole for the house. I also bought a wolf river coils antenna to try out, but I am waiting on some coax

Post up when you're on the air, if you'd like to try a contact. You may be too close for me (near Chico) , but it would be fun to try.

Took and passed the Extra test today! My son took, but didn’t pass his General. He’ll get another chance this Tuesday at the local Ham club, SARA, meeting.
Might have to start looking at HF rigs and maybe a vanity call sign too 73 - KN6HAG |

The Ham license is imminently prepare-able with a little study, all levels are doable. An Ic7300 is a great and affordable starter rig. Welcome to another expensive hobby...

Got my tech a couple of years ago. Organizing a meet-up on EchoLink could be fun.

I am near Hollister, up on a hill with 450 feet of elevation, so if you can hit the Loma Prieta repeater, you could theoretically reach me too, since I can hit that one from here... We're probably... 50 miles away from each other? (Not sure.) With a huge range of hills between us? But it amazes me how far you can talk to somebody else with an assist from a well-placed (high) repeater. --Mike, KJ6*** |

Anyone up on the any of the digital voice modes (DMR/C4FM/D-Star)? Right now, I'm only on 2m/440 analog, but wanting to get into digital. I was originally looking into going the Yaesu route for easy of setup, but after some YouTube university learning, DMR looks much less daunting then originally thought. I built myself a Pi-Star, and now need the radio to go with it, AnyTone 878 looks to be a good bet for DMR.

Just some Beofangs. Two projects I'm gonna get around to: 1) Make two Baofeng repeater rig, then hoist it skyhigh with Helium weather balloon or more likely a large kite. 2)Get a portable FM transmitter, capable of high-power (currently not legal) rig, for SHTF etc. I figure no matter what everyone will have a working FM in their car for a while, even if all Cell and WWW goes out. |
