Inherited firearms
I recently inherited a few firearms and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to find out more about a couple of them.
1. M1 Carbine 30 cal. Stamped Inland Mfg Div General Motors 11-43 2 Winchester Model 94-30 W.C.F 3. Winchester Model 1906 I found a little info online but was wondering if anyone knew somewhere local (San Diego) where I could take them to have them checked out. None of them have been fired for at least 20 years. Thanks |

OP, sorry for your loss.
I must say that your inheritance includes 3 good rifles if in shootable condition. I don't have any gun smith recommendations in the San Diego area but have used the following information regarding the same three rifles: http://www.homestead-service.com/cart/EBook.htm (For the Win 1894/94 and 1906 - disassembly manuals and other good info) For the M1 carbine the following book is a good basic info primer: "A collectors field guide to U.S. Military Arms: Collecting the M1 Carbine III by J.C. Harrison" Each of these rifles have many good Internet resources and videos for cleaning, etc. I envy your journey of discovery and wish you well. I too received a M1 carbine as an inheritance from my grandfather and had to purchase the other two. It is very, very satisfying to be able to shoot them for the first time...second time...third time

I appreciate the responses. I’ll dive in to the links provided and check Duncan’s. Hopefully they fire. The M1 appears to be in the best condition. The 1894 has some rust that I’m hoping can be removed. The 1906 has definitely seen better days and is in the worst condition. I believe it was my great grandfathers so it’s been around for a while and doesn’t appear to have been taken care of very well.

Depending on the amount of rust and how deep the pitting is it may be something you can do yourself. My Win 94 had some light rust that was handled by a combination of KROIL and separately using a pre 1982 copper penny. You can get other info on both of these methods elsewhere on Calguns and on the net.
If you need replacement parts for the Win 1906, I have bought a few from 1bigguy2 on eBay. He is out of the Chico area and seems to buy beaters and sells the individual parts down to the individual screws. Sometimes Numrich at https://www.gunpartscorp.com/ can also be helpful for parts among other places.
