Default Good option for a target 22lr pistol on roster

I've been shopping for a 22lr pistol and want it to be a fun target gun. I will want something that is compatible with a red dot sight (have the new SRO on order but will probably use it on a 9mm)
I'm considering the buckmark contour (5.5" ) as they have the rail already for the RDS.
I'm also considering this:
https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...+725+black+bbl
and adding the tac Sol rail for a RDS.
Any advantage to the longer barrel?

I looked at the walther p22 target as they look good (IMO) but it doesn't appear to accept a RDS or I don't see a mount option.

Anything I'm missing?

Both your Buckmark choices are great, think I’d go with the Contour. I’m not a fan of the super long barrels on handguns, I think the 5.5 is perfect for the Buckmark. Also not a fan of the color or ‘cuts’ on that long barrel Buckmark. I like the traditional slab sided black Buckmark.

I have the UDX plus and put the top rail on it. I ended up going back to the iron sights as I found my set up to sit too high. I may go back to the red dot, but only if I buy one of the low profile sight rails.

I’d stay away from the Walther 22’s, they are not ‘target’ guns. Just plinker with a dubious reputation, everyone I know that bought one regretted their choice.

My UDX with the red dot.

I've been waiting for a mark IV to pop up (will pay a premium) or a local mark III (northern bay area) but haven't had much luck in the market in a long time.

I have a Mark II it’s a great gun, but it’s not any better then the Buckmark. Matter of fact I prefer the Buckmark in some ways.

Stupid question but I didn't want to assume and be wrong. If I get the contour can I just mount almost any red dot directly to the rail? I can't tell exactly what type of rail it is (pic or weaver) and the website doesn't list it.

I went and looked at the rosewood grip plus version: https://www.browning.com/products/fi...ewood-udx.html
and it was very nice, the grip was perfect with my hand.
They also had the stainless: https://www.browning.com/products/fi...compliant.html
and I didn't really like it as much.
I didn't get to try the contour as they were out but it looks like it would handle/grip about the same.

ruger single six? yeah the single action revolver is an off the wall suggestion in a fast and modern world but once you try it you may see the s.s. as an excellent target plinker and learning tool. it is politically correct, simple and built like a brick outhouse. unborn grandchildren will enjoy it. and its 22wmr is the cherry on top, with handgun specific defense ammo useful for protection. discovering single action revolvers is like discovering single malt scotch: both are slower pleasures that are designed to be savored.

Buckmark for sure! Just run it through some CCI before you use bulk ammo. It seems to help with break in.

I noticed the same thing with 10/22's. My current 22lr pistols are a 6.5 Rough Rider and a Glock 19/Advantage Arms upper (25 round mag baby!) which is more accurate than I am.

I was thinking about the GSG 1911, could you guys talk me into a Buckmark?
No one makes a Scofield 22lr do they? I love my Rough Rider but hate loading it (besides that would be sweet!)

Nothing wrong with a Buckmark, but it's far from being a Target Pistol. Target Pistols are found on the Olympic Pistol exempt list.

Is that new Smith SW22 Victory on list? I heard good things about it. I also regret selling my Smith 22A...

I went over the Olympic list as another member suggested in a helpful PM. Any idea on where these are actually purchased? the list has so many I have no idea where to start to get pricing/availability/magazine options etc

Not on the roster. They make what I would want in the ideal 22 for me.

Ha ha, but no I’ve owned that MII for over 20 years I can field strip it in my sleep. Mostly the grip and the trigger, but they really are very similar in reliability and accuracy. I’d highly recommend either one.

I have had a few Buckmarks and a few Rugers.
I like my Buckmark Contour the best and I am a huge Ruger fan.

Here's another Buckmark vote. Have had a standard since the early '90s, still going strong. OP, you might want to consider a rail with iron sights if you want to add an optic. That gives you the best of both worlds IMHO.

Target pistol? S&W model 41... they are pricey, but you get what you pay for and they will always hold their value. I sold off my Browning and Rugers long ago.

Had both Countour and Lite (lone barrel). The Countour is HEAVIER than the Lite.
For me and JUST FOR ME ONLY. I like the "Lite" for the following reasons.
- Whenever I shot those two BMs I shot a minimum of 300 rds. With my old age and aging arms and I felt a little bit wear out after 500 rds with the Countour, that why I refer the "Lite".
- Amazon sell the Red Dot Picatiny/Weaver rail for Buckmark about $40, that where I mount the red dot, whenever I want to shoot red dot I just swap the rail (two screws). You have to remove the rail whenever you clean the Buckmark anyway.

BUT, if you need the heavy barrel to add the accuracy then the Countour is definite for you.

Hints:
- The Countour rail has 3 screws, whenever I mount the red dot I REMOVE the middle screw just used the front and rear screws and it's OK to hold zero on the red dot. By using just two (front&rear) screw you don't have to remove the red dot when you clean the pistol.
- Lock Tight BLUE is a must for the Buckmark rail screws.
- For the grips, I like the cheap target grips with thumps rest instead of expensive (flat) rose/oak/… grips.
