Default Remington Thunderbolt 22lr Rattle

Is it safe to shoot? Found one out of 100 pack Remington "Range" LRN, the bullet is loose sitting on the cartridge, I pull it but doesn't seem to come out, just loose.

Good old Thunder-turds and Golden Turds, can't beat that Remington (lack of) quality ammo.

No I would not shoot it, just pull the bullet, dump the powder in your lawn as fertilizer and fire the empty case in your weapon of choice.

I've shot many a thunderturd.

Honestly, if you find a gun that likes them they're fine. But if you have a gun that jams on them, don't even bother trying to get them to work.

Wait. What !?
The bullet on a Thunderbolt cartridge is not supposed to be loose and rattle around while sitting on the case? This is news to me... Remington must have let this pack of Thun-"turd"-bolts get by their QA/QC process. Tight bullets on top of a Thunderbolt case, who knew...

All kidding aside, I have shot 5,000+ Remington Thunderbolts out of my bolt action rifles and they work fine. (Semi-Auto not so much.) About 5% of the cartridges had loose bullets atop of the case. They should shoot fine.

Best regards,
870classic.

And a fact stranger than fiction my Walther P22 loves Thunderbolts, feeds and ejects them surprisingly reliably.

THIS.

It's amazing how many mfgs. tell you, "DON'T use Thunderbolts!" So the FIRST thing I do, is shoot Thunderbolts through 'em!

If they can't stand up to THAT, it's probably a firearm I DON'T want.

They gained a second life during the 22LR drought, sort of in the way that you could eat grass and boiled shoe leather if nothing else was available.

If in doubt then shoot with revolver, bolt or lever rifle.

My Henry Survival Rifle eats them like candy.
Other .22 guns, not so much.

I think I still have some pre-Y2K Thunderbolts - and many current and 'improved' iterations. No they aren't top drawer stuff, but I've had more issues with Federal bulk pack than Remington fodder.

I mean, not all ammo can be Mini-Mags, right?!

I've shot many dozens of thousands of them. They're fine. They won't win you any matches, but they won't blow your arm off like so many seem to think. The bullet being loose in the case is pretty normal for them. Load it and shoot it.

I remember buying multiple bricks of Thunderbolts and Golden Bullets years ago for less than 10 bucks on clearance sale. I ended up giving it all away to some friends at my gun club. Just wasn't worth taking up space.

Actually, both my 10-22 and Nylon 66 semi-auto rifles chew thru Thunderbolts without issue (Golden bullets too!)---I've heard all the horror stories about both, but my guns don't seem to notice... Bought large amount when on sale many moons ago and still shoot it...!

Went to range today at 100 yrds, the Thunderbolts were tight group, better than Aguila Super Extra and CCI Blazer. I shot 100 rounds. Maybe I got a lucky batch.

Shoot it.
It will be fine.
The chamber will align the bullet with the rifling.

^^^THAT^^^

OP is likely unaware that 22RF ammo is constructed using a "Heeled" bullet. The bullet INSIDE the case is smaller than bore diameter, so that the outside of the case and the bullet forward of the case, are the same diameter.

The bullet rattle is an added feature. When you get tired of being accurate with your CCI, bring out the golden loose teeth to add that extra fun. Who knows it if it will even go bang!

I've had good luck with the golden bullet round and was happy to pick up a bucket of 1,400 at walmart tonight for .045 a round. I left the other bucket behind for someone in need.

The only rounds that have given me problems over the years are CCI Blazer and Aguila HV. My semi auto .22s will sometime fail to extract the Aguila case.
