Arrow Monitors vs TV's for surfing the web

It's time to surprise my Mom and get her a better screen.

Over the years I realized that she loves newer technology but will never buy it for herself.

I am now looking at some computer monitors and others suggested getting a Smaller TV for her to use as her monitor

Dell 32" for $169
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-d3...63K3.WN56A.rGw

Viewsonic 32" for $169
https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX3...0&linkCode=df5

In about the same size range, what do you suggest and why?

-- on a side note, mom loves her large TV. She runs closed captions/ subtitles on Netflix and no longer misses dialog. Same with a sound bar -

Monitors simply lack the OTA tuner and ports to have multiple devices attached, from a content perspective. From a picture perspective, most monitors are IPS which improves viewing angle, but reduces panel refresh rate. Some blur might occur, and monitor panels generally don't support 12-bit ppx color and HDR-levels of brightness. As well, most also don't include speakers or audio out.

If none are concerns, monitors are fine for the task, so long as they support standard HDMI resolutions and refresh rates / HDCP 2.0 minimum.

Edit: Read OP's post as wanting monitor for a TV. Now realize it's the opposite. In light, no would not recommend TV for a monitor due to DPI of a large panel and lack of range for resolutions.

Tried it a long time ago and didn't like the results. At desktop distance I could experience the "screen-door effect", but I can't say if that's normal for 32" 1080p TVs or was just because of that particular model.

I've used both. Unless she's playing games, the TV is fine.

I prefer monitors for use with computers/web surfing etc.

TVs are great for watching movies from a distance and doing presentation to a group, but when I have read texts (e.g. browsing Calguns.net), I prefer to do it on monitor. It is easier on my eyes.

I use two 48” 4K Visio TVs as my computer monitors all day, every day and love them. They were each around $350 and each has the desktop screen area of four 24” monitors..
