Locally we have on consignment a1200$ Mauser 1914. A1000$ ruger mk 1 and of course the no4mk1 that turners got that AR “t “ models this one has a safety that just flops around. It’s pitted to hell and nothing really in the way or markings and the wood it worn to hell for 600$. I don’t think they actually take any market into consideration when taking guns on consignment or try to explain to the owner that hey that may not be a feasible number

I paid $49.95 for mine at Big 5 (with a coupon) They were slow and the manager let me hand pick from his whole inventory ( about 30 guns.) Shot it a few times and was unimpressed. Sold it off a few years ago for $200

Kind of funny that if a retail store lists something at absurd prices we can talk as much crap as we want about i, but if a calguns member that's been on here for any period of time posts something at an astronomical price not commensurate with the items that they are selling, we can't even make the most benign comment about it without getting suspended. seems to be a bit of hypocrisy in that don't you think?

If Turners has empty gun racks they may be willing to take on something that is going to sit there for a long time just to fill the shelves.

That’s nuts but that’s only like double what Mosins are going for these days right?
I’m tempted to sell one or both of mine. I’ve got an M44 and a T53 plus a bunch of ammo. I never shoot them but I guess I just like these clunky carbines. Makarovs are starting to be alarmingly priced now too. |

Look, I'll get you in on this deal I got, and only because I know yet a good fella: if ya buy a half dozen of them I can get you in at $600 a piece. I may be able to find you a crate of Russian surplus ammo for $1.25/round too...

I wonder if it was the gunowners that raised the prices or if Turner's did on their own? Is the latter allowed?

It's only crazy if they sell. With 10 minutes on the internet, any prospective collector can figure out a high/low price range for any milsurp. A $300 mosin 91/30 off gunbroker, with a $100 LGS transfer fee, is a lot cheaper than $700. And you get to pick from a wider selection.
I've negotiated on almost every milsurp that I've bought locally....unless the sticker price was fair. And the ones with the high sticker price that won't be negotiated? They're still on the shelves while everything else in the stores have been cleared out. |

You may not make any comments on items advertised here. That's called "thread crapping" and is a normal rule on most gun forums. If you think you are wise enough to know pricing (like you've actually seen the advertised weapon), send a PM to the seller. If not, the STFU rule still applies..."benign" comment or not, it's time to myob. OT, given your use of the Marketplace here, you just might consider becoming a Contributor here...my opinion only.

Not sure who sets the price. The prices are set at the stupid high now and sit for a while.

I was shopping for a bolt action rifle a few years back. Walked into a gun store and the salesman puts a Mosin in my hand. He tells me it has two little holes tapped on the side of it and that meant it was the very accurate sniper addition. The price was $499, I passed on it.

The big deal was when they were $50 and ammo was $0.08/rd...

I usually see managers assisting sellers putting their gun up on consignment. If the seller has a price in mind, they'll post it up for that price. If the seller doesn't know, I've seen managers use blue books if they're not up to date on market prices. I get the feeling a lot of guns currently on consignment are employees guns. They see the amount of customer volume entering the store, they can wait for a sucker to come around. If one sells for a high price, the shop makes their percentage, everyone's happy.

I once wanted to put up a gun on consignment during the start of the pandemic. When I asked the shop owner what was his price on the sale he said 40 percent, I laughed and left the store. After that experience, it could be that the sellers may be trying to get top dollar while also covering the store's cost.
