Default I got my Nightforce today and have a question. Is your NF made in Japan?

Hey guys,

My NF arrived today. Using the feeler gage method, I mounted my scope with zero error in five minutes. Anyways, as I was filling out the warranty card, there is a section that asks for the serial number. As I looked for it, I noticed that the tube of the scope was marked "Made in Japan." I thought these were made here in the USA in Idaho?????? Are your scopes marked this way? Also, I'm assuming the serial is the number below this marking?

Thanks all,
-Clark

Wouldnt surprise me. Alot of stuff is marked Made in Japan. When I used to work on motorcycles, all the Harley OEM stuff we used to get in would be marked Made in Japan and sometimes the boxes would be taped with tape that said Harley Davidson motorcycles in Japanese.
Little off topic, but HD has been owned my Honda for a long time now.

On Nightforce's website they make no mention of where their scopes are made. All they say is that the scopes are assembled, inspected and tested in Idaho.

I plan on calling NF tomorrow to confirm. I ordered from optics planet. The scope came in NF triangular packaging, with official manuals and a warranty card. I did a quick search on google. It appears that NF gets their tubes and glass from a premium glass company in japan. I'll just have to confirm all of this tomorrow. I'm kind of disappointed because I thought I just dropped cash for an all-american product.

Just the way they phrase certain things. I made an assumption. Either way, I know NF is a top notch optic. I just want to be sure mine is a genuine NF. That is my concern.

Well as long as you used a credit card, you should be well protected.

I know Falcon has their glass made in Japan and their scope bodies made in China then all assembled and tested in the UK. I'm sure a number of scope companies probably follow this method.

I wonder if US Optics is all US.

"Nightforce" is Japanese for "high end Hakko"

I had one of the early Nightforce scopes purchased back in 95, it was marked as "Made in Japan". It was comprable to my Springfield Armory Govt. scope purchased at the same time, also made in Japan. Many of the components of the two scopes looked similar or identical. IIRC, Springfield scopes were made by Hakko.

No worries there! Drop by their Brea shop and ask to see if Arnold could possibly give you a little tour of the facilities, then you'll be able to see that other than anodizing and certain small parts (recticles, etc.), which are also manufacturered in the US, USO makes everything else in house...

This guy's article show pics of his NF. The lettering on the underside looks too long to be "Made in USA." Looks like my optic.

The Japanese have craftsmanship similar to ours(germans, too, dang and others). Its the other "xxxxxnese" across the pond you have to worry about. Youd be surprised how many american products are outsourced to other countries or that use parts from other countries(firearms to appliances to automobiles). I've personally seen American made products, built all in house in America, but with japaneese cnc mills, machines etc. I dont know what to tell ya man! Oh yeah, Sorry for the extra thread poo poo!

Working in the high end engine business -I see that the products that are made in Japan are generally to the highest standards and I would put them up against an American made product any day. I would much rather support American labor, but in some things, the Japanese just do it better - case in point is measuring instruments.

Whaty type of measuring devices are you taking about? There is certainly a difference between a caliper and vibration measurement with lasers.

What about the glass? Do they have the sophisticated glass grinding/shaping machines there? I have a feeling they buy the lenses from a high end lense maker but do everything else in house.

Also, what is a recticle? Is that like a rectal device? I think you mean reticle.

Ummm Japan, Germany, and even South Korea make a very large variety of products that far exceed in quality and capability than what is made domestically in the US.

I have a mildot on backorder, now i am also wondering, where my scope will be made.

Japan isnt the end of the world but I understand your concern. I bought my wife a Ford Focus, and walked away happy I was supporting Ameri.........uhh what, it says made in MEHICO on the side of the door, WTF? My US car isnt a US car at all.

Many Germans dont realize their BMW SUVs are made in the USA as well.

The scope quality will still be there I am sure, or at least, hope.

If you bought a Toyota or Honda, you would have supported more US workers.

Yeah, mine is the NXS 3.5-15x50. Its the largest piece of glass I've ever handled. Just as clear as my Leupolds though. The adjustments on the NF are indesputably more crisp than any leupold I've handled. I went all out on my NF purchase. I got the software and angle inclinator too.

I'll give NF a call today about the Japan thing. I'm quite curious.

From what i can recall for NF its going to depend on which scope youre talking about. Light optical works of japan makes the scopes/optics for them, hence the original name "lightforce"

But they are all quality optics. I am more than pleased with my NXS 5.5-22

As for US optics, i believe the glass is from schott in germany, but pretty much everything else is handled in house at their brea facility.

Sweet!. Thats all I needed to know. I guess the compact models are made in the US. It makes sense, I've never seen lightforce market them--only NF.

On the same topic, different brand, I've seen a Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40 marked "Assembled In USA".

You are 100% correct. Only the 1-4 NF qualifies as Made in the USA. NF has Hakko make their scopes, and they contract with a Dutch company to go over them with a fine tooth comb for QA.
