Default Looking for a .22 air gun, any suggestions

My 392 crapped out on me today. So I am in the market for a new one , any suggestions?
Under $200
Can mount a scope
Quiet
For birds and rats mostly
25 yards most shots
I am looking at a gamo, I have a lot of .177 pellets, is a .22 that much better?

I would like a marauder or a FX but a don’t have 2k.

You can find a .22 Maurader on the airgun forums for around $300, in fact I saw a .25 sell for 400 on Craigslist OC.

I second the Benjamin Marauder. Worth the extra coin.

What kind of maintenance is required on a maurader?

Go with .22. Look at some springers. You can pick up a used Beeman or a RWS for about that price. The Marauder is a great entry level but along with a PCP is a air tank and a way to fill it.

Don't overlook a simple inexpensive, accurate German QB 78D.
Great plinker and pest control in .22.
Co2 is inexpensive and simple.

Go to the Pyramyd Air website and use the filters ".22" and "0-$200". That will be a good start.

Just got a gamo, impressed with how quiet it is, a little bit disappointed in the accuracy. Once I got it zeroed went like this. First shot dead on at 15 yards, second shot was 2” low. Just weird. For a raptor whisper.

It might not be the rifle.

Here is a review of the raptor whisper and the only complaint the reviewer had with this rifle is the cheap bundled scope that came with it.

Air rifle manufacturers often bundle their rifles with low-cost, crappy scopes. I wish they wouldn't do that. I would rather buy my own glass without having to throw away a junky bundled scope. Knock twenty bucks off the price and I will pay a few bucks more to buy my own higher quality scope and rings.

If you want quiet, then I am not sure a pump fits the bill.

I had the steroid package done to my old Sheridan and it is now crazy loud...

Springers have some drawbacks but they are quiet.

If noise is not major concern, might want to look at the Hatsan 95, considered by many to be the best springer there is for under $200.00, has adjustable trigger cheapy scope and best of all they rate muzzle velocity with lead pellets, so shot at or above advertised fps....right now my local Big 5 has them on sale for $149.00 and if you join their E team you might get another 10% off, makes price $135.00 plus tax....thats a deal on a great gun...youtube for reviews on it.

I have a Stoeger X20 .22 cal it’s not fancy but a good pinker and pest control. It’s very affordable. Maybe a $110 shipped from Amazon I’m sure others are there in the affordable range.

1) I am a big fan of the Beeman QB78 in .22 (laser accurate, CO2)

2) The venerable crossman 1377/1322 pistol with added steel breach kit and shoulder stock is AWESOME and compact/quiet. Highly customizable. lots of fun.

3) I also second the Hatsan 95 vote.

4) For lifetime backyard friendly sniper action, the Benjamin Marauder cannot be beat. Stupidly quiet, stupidly accurate! Initial investment in fill source will pay off and be your gateway for all kinds of irresponsible purchases for years to come...

Springers, as you prob know are very finicky - so if your "zero" is floating around make sure scope is mounted solidly and not creeping backwards or forwards on your rifle. Hopefully scope mount has a stop pin for mounting. Also, it may take you thru several brands/weights/types of pellets to see which promotes best accuracy for your particular barrel.

I have Springers, Nitro pistons, CO2's and several very decent PCPs (Air Arms, Kral, Hatsan). I still shoot all of them, all the time.

Sorry for the novel -
Good luck!

Big 5 has a hell of a selection of break barrels and others. Usually if you ask nicely you can get the sale price on anything there.

Sorry I never answered this, honestly, I've had my MRod for ten years now, I've literally cleaned the barrel once, no issues with any internal components, the pressure gauge went out and was reading 300 psi short, Tim swapped it out in 2 minutes and I was shooting it again an hour later when I got home.
So not much is required to keep them chugging along.
