So far as I know the various "2nd Amendment sanctuary" cities or counties are symbolic and carry no force of law. They're similar to the San Francisco City Council passing, as they did many times, resolutions calling for the impeachment of President Bush. To take a novel approach I would consider them as free speech and assert the state is infringing on 1st Amendment rights.

Sheriffs are going to have to decide between their oaths to the constitution and their jobs.

Yeah there is that!
Tough talk but who will enforce it ? Thinking those Illinois Democrats who passed this should make the arrests themselves!

Several county sherrifs in NM an CO have already decided their oath is more important. I live in one right now. Knowing how rural Illinois people think, they'll have a few there, too.

Aren't Sheriffs elected officials? I don't think they are easily replaced by state government. If they choose their oath, the electorate could just vote them in again next election. I'm not convinced it is something that the state could enforce on the counties without a state supreme court decision which could of course, be appealed to the SCOTUS.
