Agree, but we?re up to date two of the decision. They?re moving faster but the initial few weeks was a massive dump of applicants.

Congrats on your ccw! Could you please share more about why you had to take the training twice? Was the first training somehow not valid?

Also why was the 4hr qual separate from the 8hr training? I thought the 8hr training included the qual

Thanks.

OH BOY.

Really a long story. First I signed up for an 8 hour class and because of SB 918 I thought it best to just take a 16 hr class to get ahead of the curve in case it passed. It was close. I found out the company I took the 16 hr from dropped off the approved list so decided to go with an approved trainer on my own to avoid further delays or BS.

Then I was in communication with the lead trainer who was in direct contact with Judea Mulder (ACSO) and it was at the time the third party trainers were going to be able to qualify and not need to go to the Sheriff's range which I was led to believe was the case in the 8 hr class I did.

Upon attempting to get the qualifying cert, it came to light that the Sheriff's office didn't actually authorize third party trainers to start until a few weeks later. So I was SOL. Then, I still needed the qual so that is the 4 hr class.

Now, the best I know, they still do an 8 hr required class and then a 4 hr qual class.

The system was ever changing at the time I was going through this part of the CCW process. I just bit the bullet and stopped short of complaining to just get past all the confusion.

Now I have the CCW in hand and next will be the required annual re-qual unless CRPA gets involved as this is just raising the costs of a CCW .........

Contra Costa has such a streamlined process.. ALCO should follow their format.

ACSO currently requires an 8 hour class and then a separate 4 hour qual session. Since the actual qual is less than 4 hours you end up with more range practice for roughly 3 out of the 4 hours.

Don't fret about the range qualification. Everyone in my class did very well, all over 90%. The target is pretty big, and most of the points you earn are at close range. When you get to the farthest stage, you have oceans of time.

That said, practice at the range a few times first, put the target out as far as possible, and work on your grip, put a couple of snap caps into the mag to check for flinch and practice misfires and clearing. Also practice your draw. Be sure to keep your finger clear of the trigger until the firearm is forward; it is not unheard of that people shoot themselves in the leg.

They may have a streamline process, but are very picky mon what you can carry, which is BS. I have a 1911 and a 9mm 1911 style on my Alameda CCW, but neither would work in COCO Co. because they have an exposed hammer which is not allowed there!

CoCo allows exposed hammers. What they don't allow are single-action only firearms. A DA/SA Sig P226 is allowed--not that you'd want to CCW that.

Finally got notified to schedule a pick up for my license. Will be just 18 days shy of a full year from start to finish/pick up. *♂️ Email said it was sent to 60 recipients. Hopefully some of you on here were a part of that batch.

Thanks man. Hopefully my monthly check in with Judea (even though she said to wait) motivated her so I’d stop calling. I even called earlier this week and she knew me by name just from my voice .

Congrats to all the now-CCW holders! Unfortunately, that journey seems to come to an end for me. Last I heard from the sheriff is that I should get a call for the psych evaluation. No one ever called. It's also seems impossible to reach a live human over the phone at Cordico. It's been 6 months since then.

1st to hear of this. Usually, they text then call leave a voicemail and email the info which they sent a week later they are very discrete. You may have to call the CCW unit to find out the hold-up.

Default Alameda CCW Training and Qualification

Defensive Accuracy, LLC is now a training provider for applicants with the Alameda County Sheriff. DACCW offers both 8 and 16 hr. CCW Safety Training classes and the 4 Hr. Qualification course. www.daccw.com/ccw-classes has more information.

That's good to know, I know that they were one of the places that had fallen off the "approved places" to do your CCW initial class and the qualifications but glad to know that they're on the approved list again .

I would double-check who's an approved trainer with Judea at Alameda Sheriff. Defensive Accuracy is not on their list.

Five years ago I would laugh if someone told me I'll have a CCW in AlaCo, but it actually happened.

Timeline:

06/26/2022: Application submitted
07/23/2022: Asked to submit additional information
08/03/2022: Asked to schedule livescan
08/04/2022: Livescanned, $78
12/20/2022: Asked to schedule the interview
12/29/2022: Interviewed, $95
04/10/2023: Asked to schedule psych, $155.73
04/24/2023: Psychological evaluation
05/03/2023: Notified that the psych is complete, asked to attend training
05/06/2023: Training, $275
05/07/2023: Range qualification, $175
06/02/2023: Asked to schedule the pickup and pay $100
06/07/2023: Pickup, issue date is 6/1

346 days and $581 later, here I am.

For comparison, it took 43 days for my FL license (plus 4 days of shipping) and significantly less money.

Every person I had to talk in person was nice and helpful, but email communication was seriously lacking any transparency or indication of current status of processing. And I had to remove Comic Sans font from my machine because there are still people who think it's suitable for professional correspondence aimed at people older than 11 in 2023.

So I would have to carry my Walther PPK/s or Sig P229 only?

ACSO has reviewed the Defensive Accuracy, LLC coursework and is accepting their training. This is per Judea Mulder at ACSO.

Alameda has reviewed the Defensive Accuracy coursework and is accepting their certificates. This is per Judy Mulder at Internal Affairs. However, Defensive Accuracy is requiring folks apply first in accordance with ACSO policy, get approved, and then they may enroll in their class.

Defensive Accuracy, LLC submitted their coursework to ACSO and was informed that their training certificates will be accepted. ACSO is allowing an applicant to take either the 8 or 16 hour class. However, ACSO now requires an additional "Qualification Course" of four hours also be completed. For more information, visit www.daccw.com

Yep. 10 posts, all of them are about DA. Definitely a spam, and I'll make sure I'll never use them for training.

They're decent, I took an intro class with the wife so she could familiarize herself with the general operation of a firearm and the class was ok, nothing spectacular, when the time comes and I have to choose a CCW initial class I will go with someone else most likely.

Just got off the phone with Judea in Alameda. They have adjusted things slightly. They still have their preferred vendors list, but not rejecting training from the vendors if they have reviewed their content. Applicants are still being told not to take training until given the approval to take training. The preferred vendors list will be sent to you at that time.

As an early July 2022 app who hasn't heard anything, you might be waiting a while unfortunately.

I did get note that I was low 600s in line, so you are maybe closer to 700-800? I think they have only issued just shy of 100 CCWs.

Is anybody here a member of the calccw group? I was a member a long time ago, went to find them and nothing?? I thought the login was calccw.org or .net, but nothing works. If anyone has info on them, please respond. Thanks
