Default Type of ID required to Ammo in Ca

I went to my local Walmart yesterday at Beach and Imperial in La Habra to purchase ammo for a trip to the range today. My California DL is not restricted in any way, and I have purchased ammo there twice since July 1, 2019, passing the background check, etc.
I was told last night that they would not sell ammo to me because my license didn't have the "GOLDEN BEAR and WHITE STAR", in the upper right hand corner, which makes it the "REAL ID". They said I have to have in addition to my current CA driver license my current US Passport to make any kind of ammo purchase. The California Real ID requirement do not take effect until October 1, 2020.
I tried to explain this to the asst. manager, and was told this is the new and current law.
They were obviously wrong!

I'm not sure how to move forward with this.

Did I miss something?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Apparently this is 'new and current' Walmart business policy.

Try someplace else.

There is no value at all complaining or analyzing or reading tea leaves to decide what these bills really mean or actually do; any bill with a chance to pass will be bad for gun owners.

The details only count after the Governor signs the bills.
