That's how I do all of them. I like how that ends up

That is the way I do mine too. I was confusing your work with someone else's. Sorry.

Do you have a pic of the grip safety depressed? I'm curious to see the blend.

I'm not sure I do but I can explain it. Depressed is more about comfort and function for the shooter than aesthetics. Once depressed the grip safety blends with the sides of the frame for a comfortable grip.

High cut trigger guard

Roughing it out after getting it off the mill.

Finishing it up. Still needs to be blued.

The media cabinet really makes all the bad things show up so you can fix them. Definitely a must. I think I bead blast at least 3 times when cleaning up machine marks. Every time I think I've got them all I bead blast and HELL!!! there's more lol.

Agreed, it also shows up unintentional flats in curves. Once you sand down, the shine will hide them. The satin will show them.

But, having access to one makes everything easier as you said.

In order to do my deluxe blended magwell I have to ensure the magwell fits the frame very snug. In order to do that I have to plug the holes on the magwell and redrill them in the proper spot.

The magwell with freshly made plugs silver soldered in place.

The magwell ready to be re drilled.

Hole relocate and re drilled.

How did you put the plug in? Is it soldered or press fit?

Blended magwells on Kimbers drive me nuts. Those little pockets in the corners. Nothing you can do about them short of welding them up. Kimber relieves the corners of the magwell, only manufacturer that does this.

If I could weld, and got one of those, I would definitely weld those up.

Looks like a mistake was made. I know it was there before, but damn. That just ruins the great job you did.

Every Kimber is like this and when you look you can tell it's in the frame. The material there is very thin which makes it extremely difficult to weld and I am no welder.

LOL... I was like, did he just ask what I think he asked?

_TomT_, be willing to travel for quality work. Corona is not far for a total of two trips, unless something happens, or you have more work. Depending on where you are, Alan Tanaka is in Gardena.

Want reduced felt recoil but don't like lightening cuts? Internally lightened slide.

Before

After (still needs to be cleaned up and deburred by hand)

The heaviest part of the slide is the back portion where it's mostly solid. A good chunk of that's removed. The reduction in felt recoil is pretty significant. This is a good setup for a carry gun that doesn't want all the windows etc.
