Submitted my renewal just after midnight last night. 15 hours later I get the email that it’s ready for pick up!

Way to go SCS!

Submitted renewal form online with appropriate documents yesterday, Sunday evening. Just received notification of approval and pick-up at 10:33 am this morning. Assuming they arrive to work at 8:00 am, that's fast service!

Someone please answer quickly. Is simply "self defense" still a viable reason for a ccw permit?

Depends upon the reason for the choice....

The closer my appointment becomes the more random interactions with police I remember and I start to worry they are going to think I am some type of derelict. I wasn't being detained or doing any crimes just those situations where they want to check for warrants or whatever they do when they look at your ID. They are all between 5-15 years ago but I don't want to waste time and be grilled about interactions I can't remember the specifics of and then end up with a denial.

They don’t really care if you had a casual interaction a decade ago (unless your wife was missing and they were digging up your backyard.)....

Take deep breathes and relax.

Recently renewed for the second time in Sac County, with one gun on my permit (Glock 27).

I think I know the answer to this, but can a gun be added to an active Sacramento County CCW permit, or must one wait until the current permit expires, and then add/drop guns as desired, qualifying with each gun to be on the permit?

Thanks!

YMMV, but might be worth a try...

Why does Sac County limit the CCW to three guns verses having it open to any gun you legally own? If you qualify as a competent hand gun owner through range time and class time then why the repeated qualification just to add a gun!

CA requires that you qualify with the SPECIFIC gun you wish to put on the permit (by serial number, no less). The limit of 3 is because that is what fits on the current license - they haven't yet received approval for a new type of license based on a law approved a year or so ago.

Address modifications. How long does it take to get your new CCW card after submitting for address change?

Not sure exactly what you want to know but I just completed my renewal class at the gun range last week and I had to shoot 6 rounds one handed right, reload then 6 rounds one handed left. Also had to shoot 6 rounds, reload shoot 6 rounds kneeling, reload then shoot 2 more rounds also kneeling.

It’s buried on the CCW landing page under Information for Concealed Weapons Permit Instructors

It’s titled: (Sac Sheriff) AB 2103 Compliance letter.

Pay attention to the footnote on Page 2.

Go to post #1 at the beginning of this thread. Click on the link in the first sentence and it takes you to the Sac Sheriff website. Click at the bottom of the link under 'Range training and qualification courses' that is blue and says 'AB 2103 compliance letter'. That link shows the course of fire required now.

Default CCW renewals

What are the current turn-around times for the latest CCW renewals for SAC county? I've submitted mine on 9/9 and I'm still waiting for it to be processed...

I'm in the same boat. Submitted my renewal 9/15 and have not heard anything. My permit expires on 9/25 and I wasn't worried about renewing so close to expiration because everyone posts here about their approximate 24 hour turnaround time. Getting a little worried now.

I spoke to sheriff office officials the other day and they are running a bit longer on renewals and initials due to personnel losses in the office. So, wait a bit longer if you have been in the pipeline.

While I'm constantly amazed at just how professional the people are at the CCW office, they are people and they do come and go. While they have had a very fast turn-around time, they do ask that you submit your renewals in a basically timely manner. Don't wait until nearly the last minute to renew. Don't submit too early either. Their website suggests 30-45 days before your current CCW expires to submit the renewal and upload your documents either right then or soon thereafter. My renewals haven't taken more than a week or two, but I'd rather not push my luck and because I don't, I've not come close to having a current CCW expire before my new one was ready.

Initial applications can take a while. Just follow the instructions...

For initial, from date of submitted of last documents to email saying it’s ready for pickup—10 days.

I just wish they would allow us to submit gun modifications, even if it was last priority to renewals and initials

Earlier today, on KFBK's "The John McGuiness Show", John had Sheriff Jones on. During the interview, Sheriff Jones started that this would likely be his last term.

If you recall, before winning this current term, Sheriff Jones ran for Congress and lost. He wasn't planning on running for Sheriff again at that point. The people that were running to replace him all seemed to be anti-gun and implied they didn't agree with Sheriff Jones' CCW issuance policies. Fortunately, he ran again and won.

So, with it being apparent that Sheriff Jones will likely not run again, where does that leave us? We've been fortunate to have a sheriff that supports our rights to CCW, but what do you think we can expect should a new sheriff not support our rights? Instant cancellation of our permits? Non-renewals?

Hopefully we'll get someone with the same beliefs and it won't be an issue... Hopefully everyone is up for a fight to support a candidate that will support us, because I'm sure getting rid of Sheriff Jones and ending his policy of "shall issue" in Sacramento is high on liberal politicians agenda.

9/15 submitted renewal
10/1 received notice on that additional docs were needed (instructor and I both missed that wrong caliber was listed on one of my firearms on one certificate). Got corrected cert same day by e-mail and submitted.
10/2 received notice permit is ready for pick up.

For those that have taken the renewal class, do they make you shoot the first 50 rounds course of fire as practice or do you just go straight to the test?

The requirements are clearly stated.. They also allow some discretion on the part of the instructor. Each instructor can explain to you how they manage the class and meet the requirements.

Regarding reporting contact with law enforcement...

Has anyone here had an incident, or hear of someone who has, not involving your firearm, and reported it to SSD as required, and had your permit revoked?

Specifically, being involved in a mutual first fight, with no charges, no injuries, and only local PD responding and taking an incident report only.

When you go to renew, do they actually check for something where the applicant want arrested?

Asking for a friend. Really. I am!
