Default 1911 part fitment

Am I going to have to do some mods to this grip safety?

Wilson combat says this is correct for RIA 1911 A1

Factory on the left WC on the right.

Did you get the drop-in or the fitted one?

What problem are you having?

I believe drop in, reading the reviews most people say "went right in" works good.

Part number shows fits RIA 1911 A1 FS

Well I am probably doing something wrong on the install...

I was trying to install it and the bobbed hammer and when all parts installed there is no function.

No hammer lock , no trigger movement.

I installed one a five or so years back on my Gold Cup. It was anything but drop-in even though it was listed as such. It required a lot of filing to clear the frame ears. Maybe it's different now. I would call them and ask. When I talked to the associate way back then, he admitted they were not really drop-in.

Sounds like the sear spring is not installed properly...check YouTube videos on installing sear spring on 1911.

Sorry - edited main spring to sear spring

If the hammer is failing to lock back check that the sear spring is installed correctly. If it is the tang on the grip safety will have to be fitted to allow the trigger bow to move rearward as the grip safety tilts up.
I can see from the pictures that the factory grip safety tang looks to be a different shape than the WC. Check with calipers.

No hammer lock , no trigger movement.
Grip safeties are normally expected to be fitted.
If you look at the piece that sticks forward on the right side, you will see that it needs to ride UP to clear the trigger so that the trigger can move rearward and move the sear which releases the hammer.

So if you have NO TRIGGER MOVEMENT, the first thing to look at is the grip safety.
Remove the grip safety and confirm that the trigger/sear/hammer are functioning correctly without the grip safety installed.

This will show if you have other problems like an incorrectly installed flat spring or your sear and new hammer not being compatible.
Hammer not locking back while racking the slide (but WILL with thumb cocking) is a sear nose too long for the hammer OR incorrectly located pin holes in the frame.

Now remove the hammer/sear and add the grip safety back in and fit underneath the blocking bar until the trigger can travel rearward (obviously only when the grip safety is depressed).
You do this with the sear/hammer removed so you are ONLY looking at the interaction of the grip safety, flat spring and the trigger.
Once you have the grip safety fitted, put the sear/hammer back in and ensure it's all working correctly as a system.
You should NOT be able to pull the trigger without the grip safety depressed.
You also should NOT get the sear to release with the thumb safety engaged.
If you can do EITHER of those things, you need new parts and they need to be properly fitted.

Verify proper operation with stock safety and if same issue is present it is most likely an installation problem with the sear spring assembly.

I will have them properly fitted. I put the original parts back on and the grip safety isn't functioning now. I am sure the spring is wrong but no biggie. I think the original mainspring was not correct because the grip safety has always been sloppy and drives me crazy.

I have been wanting new sights so it can all be done together.
