EPA says it can't regulate lead in hunting bullets
EPA says it can't regulate lead in hunting bullets
Tuesday April 10, 2012 1:15 PM LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency has denied the latest petition from environmental groups that want the agency to regulate the amount of lead used in some hunting ammunition. The agency told the groups Monday that it has no authority to act because ammunition was specifically exempted in the Toxic Substances Control Act. It's the same answer the agency provided when the groups made a similar request in 2010. Complete Article

That's odd. A federal agency doing something according to law. I must still be asleep.

I believe there was significant NRA pressure , channeled via our 'friendly' legislators, into EPA saying "don't cross this line". EPA civil service staff also knows there's an election coming up where new political masters may be looking at doing 'job transfers'.

It doesn't stop here people.
These people HATE our guns and will do anything and everything they can to keep us from enjoying them. They know that direct attacks are not nearly as effective as they used to be due to Heller, McDonald and a changing public perception towards firearms so they will concentrate their attacks on our ammo, magazines, and accessories. Look for more attacks based on "environmental" pressures and features and type restrictions. Be ever vigilant.

Yep. The CBD just succeeded in shutting down most of Eldorado National Forest. They need to be stopped, on all fronts, almost by any means possible.

I wish the (AP) article and the OP had read the petition. Because I'm sure there are some people that will just ignore this because they don't use bullets to HUNT.
Read the whole first sentence under executive summary of the petition http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/c...on_3-13-12.pdf Now look at their reaction to having the petition denied (again) http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/n...4-09-2012.html Excerpt: “We look forward to putting this issue before a court, since the law is very clear that EPA has the responsibility to protect wildlife and people from toxic lead exposure,” said Miller. “The EPA never evaluated the merits of regulating toxic lead ammo, nor has a court ruled on its authority to act under the federal toxics law — well, that will soon change.” |

I will tell you the Military is working on an ammunition that is lead free. When they are capable of going lead free we will then have a fight on our hands. Right now the military would have to comply and that would be a real problem today.
Once we don't have the military shooting lead bullets we will be brought into compliance you can bet on that. Just how I see it. Bill |

The first lawsuit was overturned based on a technicality related to the late filing of the lawsuit. This petition was submitted only to facilitate a new lawsuit, and probably before a court that is friendly to CBD's position. It is quite possible that CBD will confuse the court with their junk science. This may turn out to be a very long legal process before it is over. |

I know that. I was inferring if this in any way could help bring a case against the state law.
The EPA says they can't regulate The research advocating the state law is bogus. Let's get this BS law out of California.

WHAT THEY DID GET WAS PAPER PROOF THAT MANY GUN OWNERS (they will claim in de facto) SUPPORT THEIR CAMPAIGN TO BAN LEAD AMMUNITION. That's not junk science that's statistics. Personally I call it "BAIT AND SWITCH" Last edited by 24Sailor; 04-11-2012 at 1:33 PM.. |
