Default Irvine Lake to possibly re-open

I had always heard some idiot got killed in a drunken boating accident and that's why Irvine Lake had to close down. Apparently not true. The real story is greedy governmental agencies fighting over who makes money off of it.

Quote:
The Irvine Co. has followed through on plans to transfer 29 acres it owns on the south shore of Irvine Lake to the county of Orange, but a dispute over what kinds of recreation to allow and who should profit from it must be resolved before the lake can reopen to the public.

The 750-acre, man-made lake has been closed to fishing and other on-land recreation since 2016, after the various parties involved were unable to reach an agreement on recreation rights and revenue. An Orange County Grand Jury report released last month criticized all agencies involved for failing the public by keeping the popular recreation spot fenced off.

I don't know about you, but I don't work for free.

Agencies have an obligation to their constituents to not give things away. If they have an asset, they are obligated, if not entitled, to a return on it.

You can try to break the cycle of greed by organizing investors to buy the lake and not being greedy about access, but I don't think you will have may takers.

Anyways, the grand jury report complains more about a lack of action, than greed.

Insurance. Who is going to insure a concession that has a record of deaths?

Government hacks can't get much done. The longer they string it out the more hours they charge to it.

Folks should just show up and enter their land and see what the hacks do.

No. Since it is used for drinkling water for multiple distribution systems it will probably never open again for recreational purposes.

Well, it looks like Supervisor Wagner has promissed to reopen it soon. Looks like I won't be alone on the water anymore. I can assure you the bass have gotten huge in the last 4 years.

Many local lakes and reservoirs have the same purpose, that's not the causal factor in it being "uninsurable."

Why not? It's what caused the shut down in the first place.
