National Forest Land in SoCal Where Discharge Permitted?
So in Virginia a group called "Virginia Battle Buddies" was created by members of ARFCOM where members go on hikes with packs and long guns for purposes of training, fitness, and camaraderie. The movement is spreading to other States, but there is nothing in SoCal, yet. I'd like to try and organize a chapter here in SoCal, but ideally, it would be good to have places to hike where we can openly carry long guns or firearms generally. Hikes need to be at least 6 miles long.
While there is BLM land in the desert where discharge is not prohibited, to try to do something other than just the desert, is there National Forest or other land in SoCal where there is hiking (whether on or off of a trail) available, in which discharge is not prohibited so that open carry can be legal, and which is large enough to permit hikes that are over 3 miles in length each way? Ideally, the ability to make the hikes even longer than that, maybe even significantly longer, and areas that are more centralized within SoCal would be preferable, but I'd like to know about anything that might be available.
What resources are there to get info about various National Forests or any other public lands where discharge is not prohibited? Are there maps available delineating zones where discharge is restricted or prohibited from those where it is unrestricted, whether on land in the NF, BLM, or something else?
I looked at the big NF/NP carry thread, but I didn't find a lot of the information I'm seeking. Any info or help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.
And if this thing gets off of the ground, if anyone is interested in joining in, let me know. I'll also be posting something in the hometown forum on ARFCOM.
