Update at 2:15 p.m.: The Washington Fire burning near Golf Links Road in Jamestown has forced residents from their homes. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office has given this update on evacuations:

An evacuation advisory has been set for the city of Sonora.

Washington Fire at 5% containment, 81 acres burned

Cal Fire and City of Sonora firefighter crews will continue to defend structures and construct fire lines throughout the night as the Washington Fire, which was first reported at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday afternoon near Golf Links Road and Highway 108, has now expanded to 81 acres.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
An end-of-day report from Cal Fire listed containment for the blaze at 5%, with mandatory evacuations still in effect for Highway 108 up Stockton Road to Washington Street and South Washington Street to Highway 108.

Evacuation warnings remain in effect for the City of Sonora, Panorama Drive, Rough & Ready, Gibbs, Jamestown Road, Racetrack Road, and Mill Villa Estates.
Highway 108 remains closed near the scene of the fire.

Apparently fires are threatening Jamestown and Sonora. Hwy 108 is closed and evac orders are in place. These fires can’t be natural (ie arson)

There does seem to be quite a pattern of fires starting on the major Sierra highways, stepping to the south every week or so. Recently, we saw fires on I80, and highways 50, 4, and now 108, each one about a week apart. Next up will be fires along highways 120 and 140 to light off.

Conditions are right for fires to burn right on over the top, from low elevations on the west and travelling to the Sierra crest and beyond.

Who is setting them? Leftists/ecoterrorists? Muslims? I expect it's all politics driven.

Aug. 26—Update: 5 p.m.: Hotels and homes along Stockton Street in Sonora are part of the county's mandatory evacuations, the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office said.

The mandatory evacuation areas include Highway 108 up Stockton Street to South Washington Street and South Washington Street to Highway 108.

Other mandatory evacuation roads in Sonora include Alley Drive, Golden Dove Lane, Circle Drive, McKibbin Drive, Golf Links Road, North Drive, Crooked Lane, Mill Vila Estates, Sonora Avenue, Southgate Road and Gerrymander Avenue.

This is one of my Biggest Fears. I live in Livermore about 500 yards from the Homeless Encampments along 580. The Trash piles They pull out of that **** hole and stack for for garbage collection is ridiculous.
Every morning you can smell and see the Camp fires on the way to work.
Prayers for everyone's homes , Bussinesses , People and especially the First responders who dont get enough credit.

The fire was about 2 1/2 - 3 miles away from us, and the wind was blowing directly from the fire. It rained ash here for a couple of hours before the wind shifted and blew the smoke and ash to the south. It gave us a bit of a scare. I had several hundred feet of garden hoses stretched out, as did a number of neighbors.

There were at least 3 helicopters dropping water, 3 or 4 S-2 air tankers, and at one point there were 2 jet tankers.

Several ground crews were pulled from the Caldor fire near Tahoe. Fire crews are spread pretty thin right now.

I didn't know they pulled crews off of the Caldor Fire. I know they pulled crews from the Airola Fire which is only minutes away.

I'll bet those crews are already back at the Caldor Fire.

Depending on when we get rain, there are about 2 more months of fire season left, and those are the two worst months of the fire season.

I hope everyone who lives in fire prone areas continues to dodge the monster.
