I don't know of any calgunners up there? I'm not able to go help out right now like normal, but if there are CG folks up there, they may need it.
Sounds like a new start an hour or so ago just outside of Quincy, between Quincy and the main body of the Dixie fire. |

Son-in-law is on it. He said he is on a train spraying foam along the tracks.
I found this picture of the fire fighting train. I do not know if this is my SIL's crew. Last edited by Notpc; 07-23-2021 at 1:45 PM.. Reason: Added Picture |

Our place is up at Almanor…evac warning at this point. The areas burning have burned before…this state and federal management of forests around here is screwing things up big time.

I don't know anyone living in that area either; although I do know some living near other fires right now.
Here are... The official Cal Fire site for the Dixie fire. InciWeb for Dixie fire. |

Dang, Tarmy, I am sorry to hear this. I hope the fire passes only nearby and leaves your investment of hard work unscathed. Rick, prayers for your sil's safety. Five firefighters are in the hospital after becoming trapped by reversing winds. Their condition is unknown.

I use this to stay on top of fire action du jour. Works great on a laptop tethered to your phone if you're on the move.

there was a time when govt would let lumber companies clear out the trees for better forest and land management as such we had lots of fine lumber including redwood available at our local lumber stores and furniture manufacturing boomed. But since the libs took over, All of the Forests have gone untouched and unmanaged. Most of the Furniture comes form Canada these days. I hope you guys do well and make it through.

The amount of ash and debris, large debris that is lifted and lands miles away is amazing. My place was a total mess. In Chester today there are fire trucks from all over the west coast and western states. My biggest bitch is that the state and feds are really to blame. They just are idiots about Forrest management. The area they are going to stop the fire is a private logging company’s land…that is LOGGED. Imagine that.

It's running again. They evac'd a bunch of the surrounding area and east shore to Chester a couple hours ago.
Chester and ALL surrounding areas just went mandatory evac towards Susanville about an hour ago. Not good. |

The fire got away from them again. Cleared us all out. The fire has reached Greenville as well.
Tomorrow is supposed to be worse with wind and embers blowing ahead. This is not good. Now they have a bunch of other fires going west of the town of Redding too so planes are being pulled to stop those too.

My in-laws are on the peninsula too and are making their way to Chico. Doesn’t look good for west shore.

Yea, looking at the current arcgis heat maps, it looks like it's dang near made it as far west as 32/36, and winds are blowing it straight towards Chester now with gusts to 25mph tomorrow and thursday afternoon too. Ugly.

Doesn't look good for Lake Almanor. Early into the red flag warning and the fire is already making a run for Chester. Scary.

That fire is running hard right now…
It looks like it is going to wrap around to the north of Chester and another set of runners that leveled Greenville is running easterly behind Dyer and towards Susanville. That whole Warner valley area has a lot of folks up there…a lot of people are homeless tonight and I can’t even help out… This is killing me inside…our place is surrounded…

WildFire devastation everywhere statewide. And the DimRats are making it WORSE. One of their "VOTE BUYING SCHEMES". Ag workers overtime labor law. Coupled with Minimum Wage scams.
Have literally killed a GREEN BUSINESS, whose BUSINESS was FIRE PREVENTION. ![]() Goats and Sheep can't graze/browse all forest areas. But when utilized in targeted areas around small isolated towns. There seems to be a difference of opinion in the media as to whether it is now the 3rd, 2nd, or largest fire in California history. I think the 'split opinion' has to do with whether they differentiate between a 'single' fire and a 'complex' of fires.
As of the moment, it is now, tentatively (under investigation) listed as the 2nd largest... Top 20 Largest California Wildfires At it's current size, 463,477 acres, it's got quite a ways to go to approach what is, also tentatively, listed as #1 - the August Complex at 1,032,648 acres. |

It is running again due to winds today…
At this point they can only try to limit the damage… This thing will burn until it runs out of the mountains…then hills and hits dirt. Not good. Our place is standing, for now, surrounded by fire.

My SIL's crew was demobilized this morning and they are bringing the rig back home. They have a long drive ahead of them but should be home late tonight. I am thankful he is out of harms way, and pray for the replacements and remaining firefighters. He probably will not see much home time if any, because there are others out on mutual aid assignments from his department. But at least my daughter and grandkids can go over to the station and visit him.

Reported Saturday... As Dixie fire tears through communities, some refuse evacuation orders with guns in hand
Quote:
However... If you refuse to evacuate, don't expect someone to risk their lives at the last, possible moment to come in and 'rescue' you. Further, don't look to sue for 'damages' or 'neglect' or 'abandonment' down the road. It kinda reminds me of Harry Truman and Mount St. Helens... ![]() You make a life for yourself in a specific place and spend a lifetime pursuing it. Then... something... happens to threaten not only that lifestyle, but that place. It's become part of who you are and, in some ways, may even be an inseparable part of your self-identity. At a certain point, I'd say you earned the right to decide that if it's going, then you're going with it. If you accept the responsibilities which go with that perception, then no one, not even the Government, has the right to say different. Last edited by TrappedinCalifornia; 08-09-2021 at 12:18 AM.. |

As you indicate, what you hear about in newspapers may not have been the actual conversation or how it transpired. While there are 'some' in the small communities throughout Northern California (just as there are everywhere), not all residents are thugs, jerks, or uncivilized... including those who refuse evacuation orders. You note that it's a 'crisis' and people, including 'authorities,' will often act differently than the norm due to the induced stress of a crisis. Individual authority figures can be awfully 'insistent' with something like evacuation orders. Residents can become pretty myopic and disconnected in their thinking. Older individuals can just flat out be stubborn. None of them are necessarily being or intend being vituperative. Yet, in the moment or to an outsider and/or depending on how the story is told, it can seem that way. Likewise, there is evidence of potential 'looters' already working their way on to the scene and while law enforcement is doing what they can, having 'guns' may also be a 'necessary' thing to protect health and home. So, when a noted liberal publication such as The Los Angeles Times is reporting - "They are met with people who have guns..." - realize that all may not be, strictly, as is portrayed in the piece. The point to the post was what I said; i.e., that 'evacuation orders' aren't universally complied with and, if you accept the responsibilities which go with your decision, people shouldn't have a 'problem' with the decision.
