You can wear what you want, I have no problem with it... so long as you don't expect me to wear it. And don't forget the earmuffs. There's mucous membrane in your ears too.

You're wrong about the last point.

Not that its okay - but its not how it is. Not to be confused with how its supposed to be.

I blame society. Government can't pull it off without participation of useful idiots.

Gotta keep this thing alive until election day. 2 weeks to flatten the curve didn't seem to be enough.

Fauci?
Here is a write up on his past regarding AIDS and other issues. He seems to be be a prone to catastrophic thinking. He seems to have little regard to the non health consequences to his leadership. He is very one dimensional, he does not think more than one step ahead. For instance, locking schools. The risk reward is not there to justify it.

Or, he is a political hack in the bag with the DNC?

We've been over it but, 2-weeks to flatten the curve has now morphed in to preventing every future case. This is a misguided goal that does not have merit. IT is extremely harmful. A slow stream of innocuous cases is a good thing. Running rampant in the nursing homes is not good. The leadership apparently can not make that distinction . Or, they are choosing to deliberately wreck the economy and promote chaos for political reasons.

His job isn't to make public policy. He simply informs the officials. If he was making public policy, we'd all be decrying him for overstepping his position. His job is to tell leaders the risks and likely consequences for each of their possible decisions. It's up to them to make those decisions. You can fault him for providing incorrect information, or incorrect risk assessments, but decisions like whether to lock down schools or not are not his to make.

It's a stupid gotcha question. "Did the protests increase the number of infections?" To answer that specific of a question, you're going to have to have done a study. that study would have had to take into account all the different types of protests, locations, and so forth. the whole point of that question would be to get fauci on record saying either "yes" or "no" to a question that should not be answered that way.

it is similar to the questions that your favorite msms ask trump, to force him into saying a boneheaded sounding thing that can then be used against him (or his party).

fauci handled it correctly - "crowding together, especially when you're not wearing masks, contributes to the spread of the virus."

to answer it any other way would be to speculate.

He's given opinion on many things... except ones that point him as a hypocrite.

"He noted that goggles and eye or face shields are "not universally recommended" at this time, "but if you really want to be complete, you should probably use it if you can."

So there is the "rest of the story" - if you've got one - you could wear it to be absolutely safe, not everybody should go buy or needs to wear

Pretty much the same thing he said about masks in February/March right? People are willing to gloss over how the top infectious disease doctor in a country of 330 million people was "wrong" about something about as complicated as a band-aid. Number one guy, what maybe 12-16 years of school and then 40+ years on the job?

It's a puppet show and he is a star puppet. That's the "rest of the story."

Come on - everybody on the virus response team repeated the same thing(Brix,Surgeon Gen.,et al) probably as a way to get supplies for OUR medical staff and hospital personnel . Yes ,I agree it was an idiotic decision that would just feed the skeptics , but there was a severe shortage of PPE at the time.

But many times Fauci statements are "construed/reinterpreted" to meet a political agenda as he's become the antichrist to the deniers.

You're kind of missing my point SW1917.

First of all, shortage of PPE or not, there was no shortage of homemade masks and bandanas which seem to be fine now. Idiotic decision? What kind of decision? One by a doctor that has taken an oath to safeguard human life without regard to social standing? This idiot decision as you put it was either a lie then or it is now. There's no gray area there because you cannot tell me that perhaps the three top doctors in the United States were all wrong about masks protecting against a virus, I'm just not buying it. These are people that have the skills to open up your body and replace your vital organs without killing you, how the hell can you be wrong about something as simple as that? There are lies being told, that is the only answer. I can't tell you if the homemade mask actually works or not, it's not my line of work... But this would be like me telling you there's no refrigerant in your HVAC system then telling you there is two months later. Whoops! I've only been doing this 40 years.

Now he wants me to believe that all of a sudden goggles are needed/useful? After 40+ years of medicine at the very top level this just came to him after 7 months? Like new scientific research has revealed to him that there's mucous membrane in his eye and he didn't know that in February? This is clown stuff SW1917, you watch... the media will be bagging on Trump real soon for not wearing goggles in this political circus.

Earplugs are next. We should put them in now to show your obedience and be ahead of the curve. You know, to flatten the curve.

So yeah okay, an idiotic decision then is to be forgiven and I should follow his advice now. Sure thing. What a joke.

^^^ he's not wrong.

We are absolutely in a stale mate - with two sides: People that use "what they've been told" as an unwavering belief... and people that realize much of what's told is agenda driven (lies) and are unwavering.

Neither side is going to change. Period.

Where do we go from here?

I won't dwell on defending fauci because I believe his work and words speak for themselves. a lot of people are listening to re-interpreted sound bites of things he said, and not the actual interview. they are not listening to the full clip, let alone the full interview. suffice it to say that I do not consider any of his advice throughout this entire pandemic misleading or lying. he said it was not necessary at this time to wear masks in february. he gave no guidance regarding goggles, and at this time he still is not saying "go wear goggles". he was asked if goggles/shields would help, and he has answered that if one wants to be complete in protection, one should wear goggles. in any event, people on all sides of this disaster should realize by now that primary responsibility for your family's safety lies with you. the government is clearly quite a mess, with terrible leadership, bickering legislators, and undermined/redacted experts.

the science behind the efficacy of masks is indisputable. to believe that they "don't work" is just boneheaded ignorance. those of us who have worked with masks in regular work for decades trust our equipment to keep us from getting all manner of nasty stuff in our lungs. it should not be hard to grasp the concept that reducing the amount of particles that go into your lungs is a good thing. likewise, the science behind how the surfaces of the eyes readily absorb particles is indisputable. the eye's surface gets most of its oxygen by directly absorbing from the air. in order to do that, the surface of the eye must be wet. droplets that float into the eye surface will be readily absorbed. again, not believing this is boneheaded ignorance, because this is not only solid fact, one can easily observe this themselves. covid19 is far from the only pathogen that can be absorbed this way. to what degree that route of infection is effective, we don't know. will a little bit of droplets make you sick? does it take a lot? that probably varies from person to person. but the basic "is it possible?" question is quite definitively answered.

in the end, no one is going to really police whether you wear masks and goggles. we simply have too many bigger problems. businesses might kick you out, but that is a private business and quite frankly they can kick you out for any reason. do it for yourself and for your family, or don't do it. it's really up to you. if you choose not to, I very much hope you and your family stay safe.

Funny how people make excuses for Fauci's hypocrisy.

I'm not referring only to the photo...

He's wrong....
Without a vaccine, we are making the timeline....

Schools opening Aug 24, for instance....
Stores, restaurants, state fairs, pools, parks etc. open here...
Airlines flying into and out of Salt Lake Airport.. Construction on the new airport continuing...
Most counties no mask requirement..

Plenty of office workers at work....
