Default 870 Police

I hear that the past few years, Remington quality has gone down hill. I am thinking of buying an 870 Police. Does anybody know how the new ones are?

I bought mine in 2009 and it's everything I expected it to be. My buddy got one in 2018 and he needed to do some work to it in order to get it up to par. He changed the extractor to a Volquartsen. He also polished the chamber, mag tube, and the action bars.

I don't know what the old ones were like, but when comparing the new ones to other guns in that class to me they seem of better of quality and are definitely heavier feeling

The 870 Police magnum is assembled in a different area of the factory and has a slight variations in its parts list.

I would say if youíre buying a new police magnum, not an express tactical you should feel confident in your purchase.

Personally, I enjoy the action and feel of the older Wingmaster magnums (no dimples). Iíve picked up 2 on Gun broker and for the price of the new police magnum I was able to get the host and a new wood police magnum furniture, oversized safety, reduced friction follower, and a timney 870 trigger fix. Picked up an old 20in Wingmaster smooth barrel on eBay for just over 100.

I bought a used Remington 870 Police Magnum on for $250. Itís reliable and has a lot of use still in it. The finish has some wear on it, from being in a patrol car, but that is a positive feature for me. The shotgun is intended for rugged use, and with the finish being already marred, I donít worry about more wear marks.
