Default Sac Valley Vintage Military Semi-Auto Silouette Match results

My youngest son and I shot the match with our Ljungmans. As usual, he kicked my *****.

Match is 40 rounds, 10 rounds each at chickens (220 yards), pigs (330 yards), turkeys (420 yards), and rams (550 yards), shot with military semi auto rifles. Match winner come from the "as issued" vintage class.

Here's a pic of the range...

As you can see from the results sheet, there ain't much "vintage" left in the "vintage" match.

Nice shooting for you and your son. It's sad that only 2 types of rifles were used and that so few entered.

Sounds good, 0321

Thanks, E'47

It is sad, but the match director needed to keep the match going as fewer and fewer vintage semi-auto military rifle shooters were showing up. The reality was that the vintage rifle shooters were not sufficient to keep the match going.

I've been working on a 8x57 load for my Hakim, hoping to shoot it in the match, but when push comes to shove, the Ljungman always comes up more accurate.

Aren't the vintage guns limited to 1945 and before? That rules out FN-49s, MAS 49s and 49/56 rifles, and a few others. Seems like if you broadened the rules a bit, you might get a few more guys out there.

Maybe gas op rifles that were used by the U.S. and NATO Forces from the Korean war to today. Just a thought.

That is true for the monthly "Military Rifle Silhouette". However, for this match, the "Semi-Auto Military Rifle Silhouette", the rules are somewhat less restrictive and those rifles you mentioned would be included in the "as issued" class. My son has used an FN 49 in the past without a problem.

Those rifles would be welcome. A few years ago two guys with G3's shot the match and were in the class with my son and I.

I've never seen anyone use one, but I'm certain that SVT 40's would be welcome. I've also seen a few SKS's over the years, although they weren't competitive.

If I recollect, Flynbrian has an SVT40. What I can't stand is that they at a more reasonable price in Canada and we as Collectors can't buy them from up there. Damn.

I know. The Swedish CG target rifles and the Schultz and Larsen target rifles are also available and much cheaper in Canada.

Is it open to non-members? No idea what my dope would be for those ranges but my M1 would be willing if I am able.

I shot it once with my Ljungman. I did no sighting in at all. Luckily I had an excellent spotter and that made all the difference.

It is open to non-members, No FMJ ammo, though, on the silhouette range.

A good spotter is critical. And a good shooter is not always a good spotter.

So a Sierra MK would be ok, or do you require a PSP? (Exposed lead)

Thanks,

What shooting positions are allowed?

Prone, with a front rest, but no rear rest. Front rest may not be an adjustable type...basically something like an ammo box and sand bag.

Also, for those who can't get into the prone position, bench can be used, with the same restriction on the front/rear rest.

Is this the same Match as Sac Valley Vintage Military Semi-Auto Silhouette Match ?

No. That is the monthly Vintage military rifle silhouette match. Some semi-anuto shooters do participate in that match, but most use bolt guns.

The semi auto match is every other month and shooters must use semi autos.

However, most of the rules are the same for both matches

No. It is usually the 4th Sunday of every other month, but the schedule is not set in stone.
