Oh boy, I think I bit off more than I can chew this year. I’m actually scared I won’t pull it off. Two years ago I gave up FB and never returned. Last year I gave up my occasional smoke and have for the most part kept that up ever since.

Lent. I gave up formal church services and donating time to keeping the buildings and grounds functional - oh oops. Nope, I got dismissed and told I’d be arrested or fined if I went to my church of 31 years during the covid outbreak. Mmm. Yup, the church gave me up last Lent. This Lent - I donate to the homeless and help the disadvantaged wildlife.

even though i don't consider myself a practicing catholic, or even religious anymore, i do observe lent (no meat on fridays).
of course, it doesn't hurt that i like filet of fish sammiches and they are usually cheaper during lent. maybe i should have been born jewish?

I always refrain from drinking during lent. This year I'm trying a fasting \ protein diet with no sweets. My wife has cooked all my favorites in the past few days! It's been so tempting meat loaf and mashed potatoes, homemade cookies, biscuits and gravy. Then I think what a small sacrifice to tournaments me compared to Jesus sacrifice for me.

At first I was a little upset at my wife but now I thank her.

Good work . By the time February rolls around i start getting in the right mind . No alcohol , no meat except fish , no dairy. Its a good 40 days to reset and focus.
