Yep, me too. Have the kids' computers set up this way too. Power off reverts to the snapshot. Starts clean every time and no viruses.

VERY rarely do any web activity on the host.

Folks there is a NEW media player that I have discovered. I think it is better than VLC in ONE aspect.

You can tell it to make a thumbnail of the movie and punch in a few parameters and it will index your movies.

SO FAR I have only had it crash once, but I was done anyways so I might have been too fast telling it to exit out. This program is great and has indexed EVERY single one of my movies that my other programs were too finicky to do.

What other programs do did I use?
Video Thumbnails Maker
Thumbnail Me
Fast Video Indexer

This program is NOT a thumbnailer, but it has the capability built in just like windows media player classic, EXCEPT, this program so far appears to be FAR superior to many other video players AND it has its own codecs built in so that it behaves just like VLC.

THERE are a few things to NOTE though about this program.
1. DO NOT GET ANY NEWER VERSION THEN 3.6.0.87 because 3.7 has bugs- BAD bugs and capture gives you an error.
2. UNCHECK the check for updates on startup because it will bug you to update (because the new update inserts ads and other bull**** programs that get installed)
3. You have to go to video options for preferences and change something to turned off to default (strongly recommended) if you can not vid cap/make storyboards.
4. Check in your ADD/REMOVE programs and UNINSTALL the Search Protect by Conduit or whatever. It gets installed (no way around it) and then tries to jack your system by changing search provider OR by adding in a toolbar to your web browser.
5. If YOU DO decide to upgrade to 3.7- BEWARE. It will add in some damn advertising plane on the RIGHT side and connect to their website to give you ads each time. You can disable that by adding in a "127.0.0.1 player.kmpmedia.net" to your HOSTS file. If you know what that is you know how to edit it...

Once you take care of these issues you should have smooth sailing. So far the ONLY videos that this thing has failed to storyboard have been corrupted videos, but that has been one out of over 100...

The player is KM Player found HERE

Mini tool partition wizard. Free. Easy to use, reliable.

Macrium Reflect!

I can NOT say enough good about this program!

Forget Ghost, forget Acronis True Image, forget Clonezilla!
Macrium Reflect is VERY easy to use, clones any hard disk (INCLUDING Macintosh!), reliably, and makes reliable images. Two clicks, and you're cloning your disk. I use it regularly.

Make a DOS FAT32 (Win98_DOS) bootable USB flash disk (SD/MicroSD/MS/CF) for older hardware BIOS upgrades (64MB in my case, as I had this 64MB CF and reader sitting around), and the like:

Diskovery S.M.A.R.T. "The data storage inspection tool", to read S.M.A.R.T Attributes.
http://discovery.io
This will read S.M.A.R.T. data from your HDD/SSD, and let you see the data on wear-leveling, or drive temp, etc.
"177 B1 • Flash wear leveling count 000000000001 99 – OK Common (SSD)"

For downloading YouTube videos, or just the audio if it's a song you like:
youtube-dl

For partitioning: GParted Live-CD

BTW, LibreOffice, which I mentioned nine years ago, has gotten really good. It's actually a better Microsoft Office than Microsoft Office.

Email/Groupware: Evolution. It's essentially MS Outlook without the problems of MS Outlook.

Yeah, Libre Office got really nice after recent redesign. In many aspects it is even more functional and flexible than MO, my opinion.

As for youtube downloading I would pick 4k video downloader. Its free version covers all the needs of an average user. Videodownloader (Firefox extension) works also fine in case you are using this browser. If you need to remove some annoying logo from the vid I recommend to use this free tool.
