Default Expanded exchange and commissary privileges for Vets!

1/1/20 eligible veterans will be able to shop in person at the commissary and exchange, and use MWR facilities!

Itís from about 2 weeks ago but I just got an email about it. So stoked as I already work on base. Itís a pain to have to drive off base just to pick up small things.

This is pretty cool.

Gotta get the VA ID if you don't have one.

It'll be nice getting cheap gas. There are also a few exchanges that sell guns and ammo.

It will be convenient for vets who work on base, but I can't imagine anyone else wanting any part of it. The prices aren't competitive with regular grocery stores anymore, and they added that 'commissary fee' a few years ago that coincidently is exactly how much you 'save' from it being tax free.

Add in the hassle of gate traffic.....

Anyone that qualifies as "eligible" most likely already has a VA ID.

Not everyone does.

And those that don't...

Should get one if they want to use the facilities.

So I occasionally go to one local to me (my kid's daycare is on the way). Basically, only the meat selection is worth it. The produce is weak, and anything in the isles is all the junk I try to avoid anyway. There is essentially nothing in the way of better options in terms of packaged goods (like snacks and stuff for the kids).

Now, once my 2 year old fell asleep in the cart, and the checker propped up his head with a wad of paper bags that I would have otherwise had to individually pay for off post. That felt like a good little F-U to California.
