Dinner while carrying

sometime i go dinner after work and i dont have enough time to drop off my firearm at home, can i lock my firearm in the car and have a beer during dinner ?

That’s a slippery slope.

You best not drink as you will have it with you in the car after dinner and having consumed alcohol, it may not fare too well if a LEO were to pull you over.

Just carry as you would and drink at home.

Some places - bars - are off limits.

We know of cases where a CCW holder was drinking, had An Event, and was ruled to be carrying with a (temporarily) invalid license due to the drinking.

What’s the cutoff? I’d guess BAC of .08, just like driving, but that may be up to your issuing agency.

One of the many positive things about Nevada is CCW is not a problem below .08 BAC.
Frankly, if you cannot be trusted with your CCW at .08, you probably could not be trusted at all.

Get a pistol safe for the car, cabled to something fixed to the car. If you go to dinner and you intend on drinking alcohol with dinner, lock it up in the lock box before you head into the restaurant. If you drank alcohol, leave it in the lock box on your drive home. If you really want to remain armed … don’t drink.

Why is it so hard not to drink when carrying and/or driving?

If you even have to ask how to store your firearm while you have a drink but don't realize that you're going to be driving, then just maybe you have some problem of which you are unaware.

Don't drink and drive/carry. How hard can it be?

Local IA said if you have a glass of wine with dinner, no problem. But "going out drinking" leave your piece at home.

The mag can be loaded and in the same box. It just can't be in the gun if there is ammo in it. With a CCW it can be loaded and in the gun.

Right - the issue for transport is the gun cannot be loaded; loaded mag not in the gun does not make the gun loaded; no extended physical separation is required, but you can do that if it makes you comfortable.

It's very simple just don't drink to begin with lol, alcohol isn't even a lucrative thing to most of us I'd rather be in a place to be able to protect myself and others around me if it comes down to it.

My sister died at 18 after being hit by a drunk driver. I have probably had 4 beers in my 47 years. But it's amazing when my wife and I go out with friends the lengths people go to get an explanation why I don't drink. They act like there is something wrong with you if you don't have a drink. Turns into the grand inquisition and 20 questions.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Your post just kind of "struck a note" with me because I generally choose not to drink even though I will occasionally limit myself to a single beer along side certain foods (like pizza).

I'd also imagine that people have picked up a round of drinks for you all, and you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings nor drink more than you are comfortable with.. It can be a bit of a quandary.

My general rule is that if friends want me to drink (like for my b-day or something) then I'm OK as long as someone (sober) is picking me up for the outing.

My IA says no alcohol while carrying so my rule is when I am carrying which is 99 of the time I just don’t drink alcohol.
If you’re going to drink, don’t carry nor drive, it’s not worth it.

THis not about carrying and drinking, just the note that I had (passed on ) two uncles who were alkys, and my grandfather worked farming fields with hired derelicts, drifters etc when I was growing up. I decided long years ago I would NOT be number three. I reject any and all efforts to get me to go boozin with anyone. And I am in a state where CC does not require a license.

Depends on your IA but the consensus is that you can (eg Chilis, TGIF, should be fine) just don’t sit in the bar area.
