I’ve searched and searched with no luck.
Is putting a muzzle brake on a lever action legal even though it states it reduces flash by 25% not sure if can’t have a flash hider type on any rifle or only one that classified as a “AW” TIA ![]() ![]() Last edited by wiggles88; 08-04-2022 at 5:51 PM.. |

Brakes are legal for any and all manually-operated centerfire rifles and carbines.
But I'm not sure I've ever seen a brake on any lever action, even on a .45-70. ![]()

Even if it’s saying it “reduces muzzle flash by 25%” Thanks |

All brakes will reduce flash by some amount merely by design to direct gasses in specific directions (usually to the sides, whereas compensators can also direct gasses upwards to counter muzzle rise).
Planning to shoot a lot of nighttime lever action, are ye?

In this case it is form over function haha As long as it doesn’t make shooting the rifle less enjoyable i think it’ll look better on the Henry X model instead of the thread protector |

Only less enjoyable for the folks either side of you on the firing line (depending on the cartridge, of course). What's your Henry chambered in?
The brake should look right at home on any lever action with a "tactical" spin to it. To each his own. ![]()

.357 from a long gun hardly needs a brake, but, it should look good on that weapon.
Never been a big Henry fan because their lever actions were overly heavy and they looked "chunky", lacking the grace of the 19th Century Winchester or Marlin designs. That said, this new Henry Big Boy X Model would be one Henry I'd be glad to own in .45-70 even though I already own a beautiful Marlin 1895GS (18.5", stainless, straight stock). .22 Plinkster and the Henry X Model - https://youtu.be/eD2NTvrgS4A

Yea that’s exactly how mine looked when I first bought it. This is the look I’m going for more of a tacticool. I also love my marlin 30-30 great all around gun. I agree I Can’t get enough of lever actions ![]() |

Ranger point is typically used on lever action rifles. It's not possible for a lever action rifle to be an assault weapon unless you convert it into a semi-auto rifle. I have threaded a few lever actions for brakes including that ranger point brake. I can also shorten and thread and perm attach the brake to just get the barrel over 16" with the brake included.

Personally I would go with thread protector over a break in 357, just to avoid the noise which I generally find more unpleasant than the tiny bit of recoil. That being said I did have Randall thread a 357 max barrel for me in case I ever make it out of California and he did excellent work.

Thanks for the reply. My barrel on the x model comes threaded so this will be an easy visual upgrade. This is what I thought but wasn’t 100% sure and can’t be to careful here in cali. Now off topic but since you brought up semi auto rifles. Is it still legal if you have some sort of mag lock on an ar type rifle you can have all the evil features including the flash hider or is that completely out that window no matter what? |

It has a thread protector now and shoots nice and not loud at all so I can compare it to this once I swap it out. Like you said if the break increases the noise substantially I’ll just take it off and go back to the thread protector. The recoil of a 357 on a rifle is hardly anything haha so the break is only for looks in this case. |

The red/orange tip makes it look like a toy (your gun, your choice) I know its against the law to remove the colored tips from a toy. I was surprised to learn its not illegal to put them on a real gun.
Just a thought. LE might not like it

If you go to one of the newer generation of mag lock systems such as a Juggernaugt Hellfighter or a Hogue Freedom Fighter, you can still have evil features. I think the Hogue is the best option and I do the necessary machining to install those all the time.
